"Are you going to speak to us today?"

"Yes, I think I will," answered the man who'd been silent since April 7, solving the mystery of the Piano Man.

If we're soon to see ads proclaiming "Come hear the mystery man!" ...well, slide over sippicancottage, because I'm jumping on the hoax bandwagon.

Sippican -

I'm a mental health professional and... I kind of agree with most of what you wrote. (It's a bit much to claim that all mental health work is Freudianism, but, whatever...)

I just don't understand what about the Piano Man story makes you call him a FRAUD or call the situation a HOAX?

From what little info we can get out of that article, looks like he's pretty nuts. They probably loaded him up with meds and he's not so nuts anymore - so he started talking.

If he constructed the entire months long incident for marketing purposes....well, he's still nuts isn't he?

Here’s a Mirror article claiming he can't play

So, could he play or not? I don’t know how reputeable the Mirror is, but everyone is sourcing them with this new information: Reports that he astonished staff at the Little Brook Hospital in Dartford with his virtuoso playing were grossly exaggerated, said the paper. In fact, all he ever did was tap one key over and over again.
