Doom.

Last night, as the crowd from the early evening showing of "The 40 Year Old Virgin" emptied out, one man took a turn away from the direction of the exits and walked to the end of a hallway to stand in front of a poster for the movie "Doom." He lifted his hands, as if in praise, and, in a deep voice, proclaimed "Doom!" Had he learned nothing from the movie he'd just seen?

I think I speak for us all when I say I would much prefer an Invader Zim movie.

I have no idea what he might have learned from the "Virgin" movie since I haven't seen it... but I'm afraid I might have had the same reaction to a "Doom" poster. I still think back to the feelings of incredible gratitude I had upon downloading that first version of Doom, the game. Holy cow what a revelation. It was akin to seeing Star Wars for the first time. Here's something that will change everything... create a new genre... as indeed it did. I've played every version of Doom (and the sibling Quake) to come out since. If we can have movies about Laura Croft, etc... why not Doom? I look forward to it but I am completely prepared to be disappointed. BTW... I'm no big fan of The Rock, but I can't think of anybody better to play "Sarge".

Well, I hope you'll be able to get your hands on a Sarge action figure!

I think "The Rock" is a total hottie! He has a terrific sense of humor and is actually pretty talented. He can and does laugh at himself and I really like that. He was a riot when he hosted SNL>

40 Year Old Virgin is a crappy movie based on a computer game?

Sorry, that was uncalled for. It might not be crappy. Not all movies based on video games are cr--well, they don't HAVE to be crappy. (Do they?)

Actually, Ann, I think you're showing your age: Computer and video game playing isn't really a nerd niche in the under-40 crowd.

How about openly worshipping a poster for a movie based on a video game?

Yes, that is nerdy. That said. . .

Yay! Doom is going to be a movie!
