Hear Hillary sing "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Actually, I think it's pretty cute:

Yeah, she sings badly, but she never said she could sing well, and bad singing is an American (Idol) tradition. She's a little off on the words. You can ding her for that.

I like it also. Plus, I don't think there are many Americans who can sing The Star Spangled Banner well, so they can sympathize with her tunelessness.

But this I like even better, from the AP article about her Iowa visit: "When you are attacked, you have to deck your opponent," Clinton said.

Glad to see she knows how to deal with her opponents, unlike John Kerry in 2004. This is going to be fun.

Hey I have to give her props for singing. I wouldn't sound much better.

Sorry, but having heard Hendrix play SSB I could never listen to Hillary sing it.

America needs - and almost already has - Simon Cowell. The '08 contest should be decided by popular vote, but only after he and the panel have derided, acclaimed, adopted, spurned all candidates for their singing ability or lack of it.

Colin Powell, it is rumoured, has a fine bass-baritone voice and should therefore win. (My one concern is that the electorate might confuse his name with that of said Simon Cowell and elect our man as your President. Which would be interesting.)

Flag passes, all should face the flag and salute. (Check)

Citizens not in uniform salute by placing their right hand over the heart. (Check)

When the national anthem is played or sung, citizens should stand at attention and salute at the first note and hold the salute through the last note. (Uh, nnno...)

Memo to guy to Hillary's right: Stand at attention means no talking to your neighbor until the last note.

she sings about as well as I do, which is sad :) but I have no problem with that.

I am surprised that she doesn't know the words.

note the Hillary's staff. In the world of telescopic mikes, Have her learn the American campaign favs:

America
Star Spangled Banner
Battle Hymn

Note to advance staff. Brief the guys on the podium on how to properly respond during the ceremony.

Aw, that is cute, you could even say it "humanizes" her. But as someone with vocal talents in Hillary's range, I'd be mortified to hear this audio after trying to respectfully sing along while respectfully sparing others' auditory sensibilities.

My, my. How coincidental. ;)

"The musical stylings of Colin Powell..."

Hmmm, OK more hard hat than Figaro and a bit - well actually a lot - stiff with the movements, but maybe good enough to pass the early 'American Idol' rounds.

There is not an untrained male voice on the planet that does not sing flat - this is axiomatic. Believe me, as a trained voice, I know this.

Since no one can sing the National Anthem (you have to be pitch perfect, and few of us are), I don't blame Hillary for singing so out of tune.

But does anyone remember her hubby, Bill Clinton, singing the Star Spangled Banner at the Atlanta Olympics...and then crying at the end?

(Cue the F-16 flyover)

Sure, he was a draft dodger who trampled over the military in his youth. He was a liar. And he was doing crying on cue for effect.

But the man knew how to sell a moment.

And that's what Hillary lacks.

Cheers,
Victoria

Ok, moving right along.

When do they trot out Bill?

When does she introduce him as her stand-in?

And we can all analyze how husband and wife relate to each other, lovingly, physically....as they share a podium.

Does he lightly pat her bottom? Does she brush his shoulder with her hand in a lovingly, wifely way? Does he touch her thigh, ever so gently, to reassure the public that all is well?

I can't remember the last time we've seen husband and wife together on a public stage.....and how they relate,---their body language together.

We know that's coming up.

Uh, oh. Guiliani needs a wife.

Any takers? Ann, you're single, and Guiliani's from New York.

A gal could do a lot worse.

Peace, Maxine

I'm not buying this show of patriotism . It is just another triangulation exercise to me. This women has more triangles in her closet than Imelda Marcos has shoes in her's.

I am really surprised that she got the words wrong. Just not acceptible.

I find it really surprising since she spent he rest of the evening choosing her words very carefully. She spoke about caregivers and about faith communities. I thought to myself, does she know she's in Iowa where people say things like parents and church right out loud and even in piblic!

Not that I think the words are so sacred, but come on. If you what to play the role of president, you have to memorize the script.
