But ...

Rose

... still...

ADDED: Looking at this picture, I can't get over the feeling that a cake decorator made it out of sugary icing.

How posed, poised and sweet.

Am I or is the whole world going crazy? All I see in these fotos are vortices - colorful alluring captivating vortices. Am I turning into a bee, drawn to awesome blossoms with unfunny rape fantasies?

And speaking of awesome blossoms, now I read that my other favorite Allium is under attack in a land where once it was held with nothing but reverence. I seem to have crossed into some sort of quantumishly mechanical dimension that is both familiar and strange. Should I start using a pseudonym to protect what's left of my sanity?

Meade, re Stinking Rose

A few years ago my daughter and I stayed a month in Milan. After a week in the nice enough suite there was a noticeable and slightly offensive smell. After another week, its was unbearable. I had housekeeping help me try to locate the source of the offending smell that seemed to be on everything, but to no avail. Then that night after returning from dinner I realized the smell was garlic seeping from our pores and permeating our very existence.

The funniest part was we weren't eating a lot of Italian. Had to pick our Chinese cuisine more carefully after that.

Ann: Long time reader, infrequent poster here. I love your plant photos, and am dying to know if you have ever seen the TV series hosted by David Attenborough called "The Private Life of Plants". The series is an adaption of his similarly titled book.

If not, I highly recommend the series. You will never look at plants the same way again.

AJD: No, but I did recently read "The Botany of Desire" by the aptly named Michael Pollan. I'll look for the DVD of the show.

That pleasant 12:52 PM was from “ALP,” not “AJD,” who is seldom, if ever, pleasant.
