Obama says he's going to get tough.

WaPo: "Obama Campaign Vows Aggressive Response to GOP Attacks." NYT: "Obama Plans Sharper Tone as Party Frets."

Why not just get tough? And we'll be the judge of whether you're tough.

Personally, I'd rather you show me you're going to get tough on our enemies... and not just that you're gearing up to go ballistic on Sarah Palin.

By the way, if I were judging those 2 newspapers based on those 2 headlines, I would say that it's WaPo that's trying to help Obama and the NYT is subtly mocking him. Vows vs. plans, aggressive vs. sharper, response vs. tone and, most tellingly, the difference in motivation: WaPo has Obama vowing to respond aggressively because the GOP is the first aggressor. The NYT has Obama planning to speak in a sterner voice because the people on his side are fretting. WaPo's Obama is a warrior in a grand battle. The NYT pictures a party of nervous worries and their candidate who's got the wrong tone of voice and who needs to make a plan to sharpen it.

Obama is going to respond aggressively? What ... send a strongly worded letter to ... ?

Reminds me of Hans Brix and Kim Il-Jong in Team America. Here's the cockney version of that scene.

I find it embarrassing.

Why?

By all appearances he has served his constituents well since arriving in Congress without having learned how to use a computer.

Perhaps he prefers to travel to other countries to learn about the world. Or perhaps he spends a great deal of time reading.

How, exactly, will computer skills help him be a good President?

Do you think he will sit around the Oval Office writing memos?

Do you think he'll fire off emails to Putin or Sarkozy to schedule poker games?

What good would it do for him to have computer skills when he isn't going to be using them as President for the next four to eight years?

As mentioned previously, operating a computer is not a requirement for leadership, which is what we hire Presidents to do.

Still, Dogwood, don't let Kate and your second daughter turn out to be me -- in reverse. *cringe*

It's okay Victoria, I grew up in a union Democrat family and was the first one to break for the Republican party in the 1980s.

My grandmother called me her Republican grandson and everyone knew who she was talking about because there was only one!

Today, everyone in my family votes Republican with no signs of any of them returning to the Democrats any time soon.

I'm counting on the political conversion process to last at least another generation or two before it shifts the other way.

However, if the Dems keep on their present course, I don't think we'll have anything to worry about.

I do appreciate your concerns though!

Well, maybe you could...Google it, whistle dick.

I'm not here to prove anything to you, and if you actually believe a "name" has to be assigned to a specific policy or doctrine, before those running for President or Vice-President need to know what it is or understand it, you're dumber than first thought.

Palin was well-rehearsed, had specific things memorized, which is why she repeated herself a number of times, and handled herself in a reasonable manner.

The fact that McCain's people hadn't provided the necessary information relating something as important as the Bush Doctrine, considering what it relates to, is a poor reflection on their abilities to prepare a candidate.

And by the way: The key element of the Bush Doctrine itself isn't that complicated, considering it basically says that we have the right to treat countries that harbor, aid, assist, etc. terrorists, as terrorists.

Think you could cram all of that into that huge brain of yours?

Peter V. Bella said...

If you want to tell yourself that previous Presidents and Vice-Presidents aren't fully aware of the previous Presidents policies, and especially anything to do with potentially aggressive actions, you're dreaming.

Actually they are not. They are clueless. They are not made fully aware of policies until they are elected and briefed during the transition period. All the rest is pure speculation on their part or public knowledge. Have you been living under a rock or something? You never heard of security clearances or classified information?

The most concerning thing to me right now is Obama leading in New Mexico, Colorado and Nevada. I don't understand why those more libertarian leaning states would vote for such a statist.

Because people out West hate Bush and the idea of endless wars for "freedom lovers" in foreign lands that can't seem to fight for themselves- then bushwhack our guys rather than work with us to rebuild their shitholes. They hate the corruption and Corporatism of the Republicans. It is libertarian populism that hates DC and wants real change from Bush/Clinton business as usual, real reform.

McCain is doing well breaking away from Bush. The diss of Bush at the Republican Convention and selection of Palin as a hardcore reformer of Old Boys Clubs was a great start. McCain could also use Romney as a surrogate more and more out West, where his outsider status, and no BS strong Mormon ethics resonates well outside the Mormons...Especially if McCain signals he will appoint Romney Treasury Secretary and Czar to analyze and clean up the Fed Gov't with no favortism...

Integrity - This is a demographic game. Until we can win the way we want to win, I think we would prefer to lose.

But we will still play the loyal opposition role that any 2 party system requires, and at times be real aholes about it. We are angry. We need to stay angry.

News for you. Half the hispanics are 100% white. "Hispanic" is an artificial preference group invented by two Jewish economists under Nixon tasked with creating the EEO. They also invented "Pacific Islander", which applies to Samoans but not Tahitians, Japanese, or Filipinos.

Asians also work and maintain a superior culture and lifestyle backed by education, family values, and hard work.

So your dream of non-city whites submerged by a rising tide of angry 3rd-Worlders led and mentored by angry trust fund WASPs and wealthy Jewish elitists of the Hard Left is complete fantasy.

The votes aren't there even as whites become less dominant in elections.

The black underclass that elitist Jews and WASPs on the Left count on to leverage their numbers continue to descend further into parasitism and barbarism.
Asians and most Hispanics have no intent to see their state, or their nation sink to the shithole status of places dominated by black underclass and their leaders.

If worse comes to worst, you have a 2nd Civil War, which would be underclass blacks and hardcore white Lefties against everyone else (the productive ones who control the military, food production, transporation, and most technology essential for city's survival). The outcome would be certain even if the working class blacks free of crime and other underclass pathologies joined on the black-Lefty side.

Then we would scrap the old Constitution for sure, come up with a better one that only extends the voting franchise to contributors to society, no more lifetime judges, and parasites shit out of luck. Moved out of burned out cities into camps...no vote..powerless..no doubt eager to see what advice the white Lefty elitists in the same camps would have for them then.

Enjoy your anger, Integrity. Stay angry. It will give you something to do the rest of your life.

His Calabrese-Italian family are originally from Jersey, and his father was not only an union man, but he and his 3 brothers were labour leaders, in charge of negotiations with management. They were huge Democrats until 1980.

Reason?

Exact same wording that President Reagan used of Charlton Heston, when the former was describing why the latter had walked away from his liberal Party.

"Chuck didn't leave the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party left him."

You can't be for the little guy, for the working class man, for the union woman, for a person has a degree from a modest university, and be a Democrat.

Sarah Palin showed the world what kind of snobs the Democrats are these past few weeks, and why people like her wouldn't even think twice of being Republicans today.

A lot of feminists were born in 2008, but a lot of Republicans too.

Good luck though, Dogwood! :)

Nice try, Michael. Few people recognize a policy under someones name, when that policy was altered after announced 6 years ago and could possibly refer to other "doctrines" of a two term President.

It comes across like Noble Algore smugly saying Bush knew nothing about Dingell-Norwood when 99.99% of the rest of the country didn't know what the fuck Dingell-Norwood was, and almost as large a number didn't care.

On a show, several pundits said they didn't know because only some of the media named the "Bush Doctrine" as applied to 9/11 and "not waiting for threats to strike" and subsequently, Bush created other Doctrines - His stupid Sharansky Democracy/Freedom Lover Doctrine where we would gladly die in many wars to "liberate" noble purple-fingered peoples that hated us, the African Doctrine, SS Privatization Doctrine...

Palin should have said "Which Doctrine"? Supply side tax cuts? Africa? Sharanskyism? Peventative War? Free trade doc.....? Oh, you mean his 9/11 preventative war doctrine? Not his "Your with us or you're with the terrorists Doctrine?"

Historically, Carter had 3 Doctrines that bear his name, given to him at one time or another by himself or others.

Nixon had 7-8 Doctrines associated with him.

Even Ford had a couple.

A brand of shoe polish. During WWII GIs wore brown shoes and Shinola was one of the brands of polish. The phrase he don't know shit from Shinola was born to describe people who, well, could not tell the difference.

The phrase was used by GIs to describe people who could not understand simple concepts, read with accuracy, walk and chew gum atthe same time, or had no common sense what so ever.

This is such droll nuance. You confuse execution with results and an Obama presidency would do what? Reverse the current set of results that have already been attained. What do you think will happen if Obama becomes President? AQ will issue surrender orders and politely go away? The rest of Europe will throw a party in his esteem that now they will have a brother in arms? Will you see economic prosperity increase under an Obama presidency when he's already said he is going to tax the living daylights out of just about anything that is business oriented or consumer based? His wealth redistribution plan alone will hobble this economy to the tune of nearly 1.5 trillion dollars per year if he has anything to say about it. Hell, the current budget is over 55% entitlements as it is, under his it will go to 60% or more. He won't need to worry about cleaning up any of the messes the last administration has left when he will have a clear path to easily create his own, while Biden waits in the wings clicking his dentures at the chance to bring up criminal charges against the previous administration.

The uptight, miserable old white people won't live forever. We might have to wait it out.

Roger, I realize you're older than dirt, but this is simply not true...unless you actually believe the President and his administration is running the entire show without any feedback or approval from the other branches of government.

All kinds of people associated with the administration, and even those on the other side of the aisle who have little say, but still count...know all about all of the policies, etc.

That, my ancient friend, is why we call ourselves a democracy or a republic. We have a tendency to lean towards an open government, with elections and with all kinds of people "voting" for or against specific people, policies, bills...and yes, even "doctrines."

It's an interesting election. At the end of the day, the undecided vote is going to inevitably break to McCain because, somehow, he seems like the insurgent.

vbspurs said...

I agree with the headfake, given my Bill rapprochement scenario.

You know why?

Because such a weak ad, after such a run of them, makes Obama look more than desperate -- it makes him look flailingly incompetent.

So the "email" ad is there to make the 50% of the anti-Hillary crowd in the Democratic Party (Kos, etc.) practically beg Obama to bring Hillary on next week: an unthinkable turn of events a mere 3 weeks ago, during the last day of Invescopalooza.

Enter Hillary, and this election will change on a dime again.

Cheers,
Victoria

"SARAH PALIN KNOWS MORE ABOUT ENERGY THAN ANYONE IN AMERICA." JOHN McCAIN

September 12, 2008

Palin says Alaska supplies 20 percent of U.S. energy.

Not true.

Not even close.

Palin claims Alaska "produces nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy." That's not true.

Alaska did produce 14 percent of all the oil from U.S. wells last year, but that's a far cry from all the "energy" produced in the U.S.

Alaska's share of domestic energy production was 3.5 percent, according to the official figures kept by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

And if by "supply" Palin meant all the energy consumed in the U.S., and not just produced here, then Alaska's production accounted for only 2.4 percent.

(I have to be a little careful - sometimes the moonbats at Westlake Center try to wing me.)

So yeah, I think it's great to poke fun at Palin, who appears to be big enough to take a joke.

Question: Neither Bambi nor Palin have people "like them" on American currency. Which one does it bother the most? Who is the most uncomfortable with his or her own image?

A college friend of mine was born to hippie baby boomer parents on commune in the early 1970s.

During a visit to their home in the early 1990s, we were all sitting around talking politics when my friend's mother told us that her generation had destroyed the moral and social fabric that had held the country together throughout its history.

She didn't know what could be done to repair it, if anything, but she had a genuine sense of sadness and disappointment in herself and her generation for what they had done.

It is the same generation, and their offspring, that continue to drag the Democrat party into the abyss.

His nightly ritual is to read his email together with his wife, Cindy. The injuries he incurred as a Vietnam POW make it painful for McCain to type. Obama saying he is going to get tough is like Urkle saying he is taking dancing lessons. One does not get tough. You either have it or you don't. It is an internal hard wired thing.

There is a great misconception about being tough. Tough is not being aggressive. It is not defensive or offensive. Tough is not the bully or the guy who can handle himself.

The true tough guy is one who does not give a fuck about anything. You hit him, he hits back. You hit him harder, he comes back harder. You knock him down, he gets up. You knock him down again, he gets up again.

No matter what you do to a real tough guy, he just keeps coming back. Then when you are tired, worn out, and too weak to do anything, he makes his move.

The real tough guy beats you with persistence, courage, and heart. Obama has none of those qualities.

Wow, I just checked the news. The Obama gaffe on McCain's emailing is the dumbest one of the campaign so far.

HA, Obama must be so pissed. He has to bring down the axe here. What a dumb mistake. Lucky for Obama the google check came out before he made fun of McCain at a rally. Then we would have Obama on tape saying it.

Reading these comments has been most illuminating. What I found interesting is why no one here bothered to ask WHY McCain doesn't use a PC for email or rely on a blackberry. I mean he's not an idiot and there are certainly folks older than he is that are computer savvy, so why wouldn't he be online?

Maybe it's because he's got a slight problem typing. Seems that the torture he suffered in Vietnam left him with nerve damage in both arms making extremely difficult and painful for him to try and type. He also cannot tie his own shoes or comb his own hair. (http://www.bloggernews.net/117746)

Can't wait for the Obama adds that skewer McCain for not being able to dress himself. Won't those be a hoot.

Apparently because all of Obama's operatives were up in Alaska looking for dirt there was no one available to do a 10 second google search on McCain using email.

Obama... what an idiot. I can only imagine him flubbing up in some meeting with Putin.

I think you just hit on the new tag line. "Obama, what an idiot."

This should be repeated over and over again. People love tag lines.

I cant stop laughing about this

Obama: I am taking the gloves off. This is it. I am going personal. McCain he is so dumb he doesn't use email. McCain, the cripple, he can't even tie his own shoes.

HAR HAR HAR

Wait, even without the McCain revelation about his hands, the ad is stupid anyway. Obama is accusing McCain of not being able to protect us from cyber war farebecause he doesn't use email.....Wtf? Earth to Obama: you can't protect us either because you have never fired a gun, piloted a plane, served in the military, etc...

Funny stuff.

Oh, I am sure that there will be others. If not, his campaign can always get his pal Markos to have people post trash on KOS. They did it with Palin. Then there is Huffingglue, which will publish anything that is anti-Mcain-Palin, whther it is truthful or not.

This is it, Sloany, Joe, Stephen and others who raised this point.

I CANNOT believe that this is the Obama that we know signing off on these ads.

Let's be honest -- he's an empty suit as far as principles and what he stands for goes, but he's not dumb. Come on now.

So how do you explain these series of utterly confused, weak, and incompetent ads attacking his opponents?

THIS HAS TO BE THE GROUNDWORK LAIN FOR A HILLARY NOMINATION.

It makes no sense otherwise. He's purposely making his side go nuts until even they will be clamouring for Hillary to save his campaign.

That's the only way that side will accept her, without blinking (unlike 3 weeks ago). I would tell you that even Chris Matthews would go easy on Hillary now.

Because if this scenario is not the case, and he truly is this incompetent, then we're all the poorer for it.

The question is -- why is MSM going after him as much about this? They're basically enabling his incompetence. I'm guessing they don't want to admit they were duped and wrong, too.

Cheers,
Victoria

Anyone want to talk about the Palin 20/20 1 hour interview?

There's more on the Friday Nightline, but even I'm pooped out for that.

Sloanasaurus said...

I watched the 20/20 interview. Palin did an outstanding job. The editing bugged me. They should just play it un-edited. I really liked Palins three-part economic plan - cut taxes, cut government spending, create better oversight over quasi-government agencies (like Fannie and Freddie). She made it so simple, but those are the things we actually need (although I would add free trade, but Charlie told her to pick only three). Contrast this with Obama's plan - 1) raise taxes, 2) increase the size of government, 3) create even more quasi government agencies.

They were totally unfair in the beginning to her. All they did was repeat the tired accusations about her all which have proven to be false. But, we have to expect this.

I thought Charlie Gibson was tough but fair. With Russert dead, Gibson is really only the last semi-fair MSM anchor left. No wonder Palin picked him.

Georgie S. was of course left wing as usual with his "do you think they will be able to get away with it these lies about the bridge to no where..." What an ass. The whole point about the bridge and earmarks is not necessarily the money, it is that they are pet projects of individual Senators used by them to get favors. Earmarks are all about corruption..doesn't the MSM get that? Kind of like the $1 million earmark Obama gave to his wife's employer soon after she got a raise.

Tori Clarke was so pro-Obama even Dee Dee meyers came out to defend Palin.

Victoria, is there video of the interview anywhere online? We've had crazy freak storms all day (tornadoes included) and it all has been local coverage. I would love to watch it, and discuss.
