This reminds me of the old Kerouac number with jazz piano behind him played by David Amram -- Kerouac was also a Republican.
Argument Sid Caesar.
This snippet is jerked out of context. It does not show the conversation immediately preceding, and to which Palin is referring when she says "That's why I'm saying...." You are comparing Obama on teleprompter to Palin extemporaneous and jerked out of context.
I can't listen.but... Mr. Rogers.I thought he was dead.
Putting a tinkly sound track on top of her speaking doesn't make it "musical speech." There is nothing to her cadences, or changes in pitch or tone or volume, in this clip that could make it work as music. Just another exercise in projecting rather than observing. She seems to attract a lot of that.Lame.
"I love contrasting this Palin video with the Obama 'Yes We Can' that was circulating about 6 months ago"Yes - that was disturbing and inappropriate. This is kinda neat.
I cracked up over the sappy tear-jerker soundtrack they gave Couric, but once the upbeat piano for Sarah started, I understood what the schtick was and only watched a few more seconds. Not enough original content to hold my attention... sorry if that reveals my lack of culture.
I still think Dark Side of the Moon as a background to The Wizard of Oz is the best. If you haven't done it, you should. Well worth the effort.
Utterly hilarious video. Thanks for posting. :D
Did Simon really say the Yes We Can video was "inappropriate"?I can understand why the far-right finds it disturbing. "Disturbing" could describe conservative feelings about everything Democrsts say and do. But who could seriously claim the Obama video was "inappropriate"?
My only concern is, do I bailout of Althouse now, or repeat the mistake I made with Andrew Sullivan years ago and wait until there was not doubt left as to his mental instability.
Synova, my thoughts exactly.
AL, srsly?'Sarah "Joe Six Pack" Palin and her brood from Nieman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue.'1 why 'brood?' why not 'family' or 'kids?' is it b/c 'brood' is insulting or dehumanizing, ie a brood of chicks? never see it used in a nice way. 2 worth every penny. necessary. perfectly justifiable. you are on effing tv! should she wear a potato sack or a parka? patronizing even if you don't consider costs of other candidates' clothes. she is poorest of the 4 candidates, too, should a mom of 5 be buying two dozen fendi gowns etc? perhaps trooper could float her.3 u do realize women's xpns are always higher?4 best u can do?
AlphaLiberal said...I doubt it. Liberal media, my royal dutch ass (grandma's favorite phrase).Always insulting somebody. Now it's the Dutch. Have you no honor? Oh wait.
AL - let me get this straight. The jokes write themselves when Palin invests in a upgraded wardrobe because she'll be campaigning non-stop? But its a right wing conspiracy when someone points out the hipocrasy of Edward's portraying himself as "for the common man" when he's worth tens of millions and taking $400 haircuts? Hint, she is stepping up because she is authentically middle class. Hunts, fishes, lots of pictures of her in jeans. He's the multimillionaire tort lawyer who wants to be just an average "Joe".
The haircut was also about Edwards being less than a manly man, more of a metrosexual. I'd be curious, as a real comparison, to learn how much Hillary spent on her look in campaigns long past and recent.
Alpha Liberal: "We now have news that the RNC spent over $150k for wardrobe for Sarah "Joe Six Pack" Palin and her brood from Nieman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue."Alpha, there is already a post on that subject, so why are you putting that here as if to insinuate that I've ignored it? That is just rude, a trollish approach to this blog. I thought you were above that. I'm deleting.
althouse-not letting al post irrelevant and malicious information constitutes cruel & unusual punishment, but is also just (lawprof comment?). without such, what else would he have to say?
Yachira, I really think that you're reading more into some of these posts posts than is actually there.Verso said..."Did Simon really say the Yes We Can video was 'inappropriate'?"Yes. That kind of hagiographic adulation of a politician, the whole cult of personality that surrounds Obama is deeply incongruous with a republican (in the platonic sense) form of government.
Ann Althouse said... Alpha, there is already a post on that subject, so why are you putting that here as if to insinuate that I've ignored it? That is just rude, a trollish approach to this blog. I thought you were above that. I'm deleting.Well, now you've gone and besmirched his honor. Oh what shall we do? Calling AL rude and trollish is redundant at this point isn't it? Um, that was rhetorical, just in case.
Simon says, "Yachira, I really think that you're reading more into some of these posts posts than is actually there."I don't believe I am, and I won't believe it until she covers Obama and Biden with the same Maureen Dowdish "cleverness" that she exhibits covering Palin.
yachira; Please do not sully Ann's pages with such an odious comparison.I think we all understood that Ann's cruel neutrality pose was a writer's hook. Watching her clever high wire act was enjoyable and participating in the dialog keenly anticipated. We also knew it would end as election day approached and Ann would make a reasoned argument for Obama. I was looking forward to her presentation and rebuttals that would flow in comments.I guess I expected more foreplay and am a bit disappointed with sudden swing left and low brow partisan humor. However, it's not Ann's duty to cater to my sensibilities. So I'll just enjoy the photos and refrain from commenting on political posts, but leave? Not in a huff or a Buick.
You, Ann, a LAW PROFESSOR no less! How could you!
That's a good video, but not in a "I sure enjoyed listening to that" kinda way. I cringe to think of the music for this: Right, well what I have said about this is really the debate at some point, had better shift to, no matter the cause, whether it all be attributed to man’s activities or just the natural cycle of climate changes in our earth’s history. We have seen this before. Whu?
Those who remember "Yes we can" will probably enjoy the remix. Make sure and watch the whole thing, over and over, and one day you might become an MSM reporter.Say, someone from Althouse's neck of the woods is in the news; maybe she could ask him what's going on. He quit a robocall firm over the Ayers script he was asked to read. Oddly enough, someone else hundreds of miles away and working for a different company also quit over the same script. Coincidence, or something else?
Ann: Alpha, there is already a post on that subject,...Oops. Sorry, I didn't see that. I actually did check first but missed it. My humblest apologies. Or, as Steve Martin might say, "Excuuuuuuuuse me!"One of those.
From: Sarah PalinSent: Mon 10/20/2008 3:38 PMSubject: My guest appearance on Saturday Night Live Dear Supporter, If you caught my guest appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend, you may have seen an ad or two (or twenty) from Senator Obama's campaign. This barrage of advertising is adding up to the most expensive negative ad buy in political history. And these ads are funded with the nearly $200 million the Obama campaign and the DNC raised in September. With this new money, they'll only step up their media buying efforts to flood every network with ads attacking our shared values. These ads are full of inaccurate information designed to mislead voters in key media markets. We need your support to stop the Obama-Biden Democrats' media buying binge. Your immediate contribution of $25, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000 or more will help fund our team's ads in key media markets across the country. The current media buying gap is a direct result of Senator Obama's broken pledge to accept public financing. This summer, Senator Obama chose to break his promise to the American people by opting out of the public financing system. But, you can be sure that our entire team will honor all of the promises we make in this campaign because we are men and women of our word. Our team of reformers has a plan to take America in a new direction. Our economic policies focus on providing economic relief to those who need it most. While the Obama-Biden Democrats say they want to "spread the wealth around," our team won't support economic policies that punish Americans for working hard and pursuing the American Dream. I'm asking you today to help our team get this message out. The funds you give today will help pay for upcoming ad buys and get-out-the-vote efforts. If Senator Obama is elected and Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid are in charge of Congress, there will be nothing stopping them from raising your taxes, immediately pulling out of Iraq and placing your healthcare decisions in the hands of government bureaucrats. We can't let this happen and that's why your financial support is so critical to our efforts. Every dollar we raise goes directly to help fund media buys and get-out-the-vote efforts in important races across the country. So, please make the most generous contribution you can give - whether its $25 or $250. We're certainly grateful for any help you can give. Thank you. Sincerely,Governor Sarah Palin P.S. Are you tired of watching the barrage of liberal television ads the Obama-Biden Democrats are running? If so, then I ask that you help us close the media buying gap by making a generous contribution of any amount to McCain-Palin Victory 2008. And if you can give $75 or more today, we'll send you an exclusive McCain-Palin Victory 2008 lapel pin to show your support during the final days of the campaign. We appreciate your support.
Yachira said..."I don't believe I am, and I won't believe it until she covers Obama and Biden with the same Maureen Dowdish 'cleverness' that she exhibits covering Palin." Well, what's critical about this post? What about her post yesterday, which took some flak from commenters, but in all reality did nothing more than ask whether Palin misspoke or had been misquoted? What about her post earlier, which I took to be defending Palin?
I liked it, though it was too formless to really resonate. A little more repetition of thematic elements and--okay, I guess it would've been more like Mr. Rogers, but I think it would've been better.
We'd all love to see some clever person could do likewise with an Althouse vlog.
Well Althouse is now officially gone over to the PDS side. I didn't think it would happen, but it has. Althouse is officially part of the loony left.
Simon says, "Well, what's critical about this post?...."My point is, I guess, more generalized than this one post. I simply think that a serious person cannot support Obama-Biden, and I'd always taken Althouse to be a serious person. Obama offers nothing but the phrase "hope-and-change," dressed up in whatever ever subject-du-jour he's using at any given speech (economics, foreign policy, whatever). Oh, and he offers this as well.I'm sorry, but voting for Obama is pure Princess Diana celebrity stuff, except he's not just running to be a Princess, he could become President. That's alarming.
David Talbot - The 'Complete Fiction' of Sarah Palin
This video is post worthy?Odds of Ann voting Obama vote are currently at 97.59%.
I'd always taken Althouse to be a serious person. Why?Was it the talk of onion rings and carrot sticks that convinced you?The American Idol blogging?Taking a closer look at breasts? What's more, why is serious such a good thing?
I need to learn how to do this video remix thingy, because this one is very lame. As with Obama's "Yes We Can", I'd start with one of her good speeches.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCDxXJSucF4And I'd mix it to Ted Nugent.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYOV8uu17t0All I can say is open up my first link in one window and my second link in the other and try it out. Start both Nugent and Palin at 0:00. Palin starts speaking at 3:13 as Nugent solos. Tell me I'm not right on this.
How 'bout the musical speech of Zo
Ick.Ooog.Nearly random jazz noodlings.Add alto sax duck calls and you've got another poorly attemded "jazz" "concert".
Yachira said: My only concern is, do I bailout of Althouse now,...Yes, but whither?
Sarah has 5 kids, 5 KIDS! and she managed to become Governor of Alaska!!That alone makes her Wonder Woman. The gall of the pundits, those hercules who turn out two columns a week, and talk of her thin resume.
MEDITATION (No. 31): What is the difference between a woman who aborts her baby afflicted with Down's Syndrome and a Nazi eugenicist determined to create the master race?
Pogo wrote: Ick. Ooog. Nearly random jazz noodlings.Agreed. The only jazz worse than piano jazz noodlings is skat. I hate skat. It was good the first time and never again. As for the video, it's lame. By choosing an interview instead of a speech the producer misses any chance of finding cadence or rhythm. You need a speech. And the music has to fit the speaker. The "Yes We Can" music by will.i.iam is perfect for Obama. I don't know if Obama actually likes folky acoustic gospel grooviness, but it seeme to fit his persona at the time. That is why someone, with more soundboard chops than myself, should mashup Palin with Ted Nugent. Nothing says Palin like classic hard rock guitar solos by a gun enthusiast. Glenn Reynolds should do it.
The liberal illuminati are always WAY better at the music video, they just get all the stars on their side! Yes We Can...
AC/DC with Thunderstruck in this video is the perfect match for Palin and her intensity, watch the first 45 seconds of her at this rally and feel it.Oh, and by the way, how did the endorsement from the head of NOW in Los Angeles happen to go down the rabbit hole?
