What's the point of Condi's almost knee high leather boots, to discombobulate the foreign diplomats she's "negotiating" with?

If the weather is cold and you're wearing a skirt, then a coat and good quality leather boots are absolutely appropriate. The key issue isn't the leather or the boots, but the shape and height of the heels. That's what's playing tricks on your head.

Why isn't Madeline the Battle Ax in the survey?

Condi.

Harder questions, please.

The same reason Helen Thomas isn't a contender...Think of Helen Thomas in leather boots to the tune of "These Boots are made for walkin'"

Doesn't work for most!

I once drank champagne out of Condi’s booty.

No wait . . . that was a typo.

And a fib, to boot!

If the weather is cold and you're wearing a skirt,

...and you're de-planing on a windy runway...pants are a good idea...and not just to keep warm.

Condi dresses as what she is, a top butch. It's a way to tell men to keep their distance and keep them in their place. She compensated for the inherent weakness in the office of S.o.S. by projecting power initially, and understood that silent messaging was everything.

There was a reason she went to Barbizon School when she was younger.

Hillary, for all her talents, dresses as if she was one of the weekly losers to Morimoto on Iron Chef.

Are there cankle boots?

A long coat with pants? Worse yet, an old-lady gardeny coat? Ugh. Dowdy dowdy.

Long coat, smokin' hot boots, just enough leg? Smart and awesome.

Original Mike is right. This question is way too easy.

Condi. She is a slender, attractive woman negotiating with (mostly) men who, might otherwise think that attractiveness == dumb. She is dressed to remind her opposite numbers that she represents (represented) an aggressive, muscular country.

Hillary is used to assuming that everybody is aware of her power, and that may not be the right thing to assume just now in her dealings with foreign leaders. Hillary wears slacks because she has ugly ankles and probably -- at her age -- varicose veins. But the right skirt on a woman is much more intimidating than slacks.

Next up for Hillary, a Bella Abzug hat. No one messes with a woman wearing a hat like that!

Hillary dresses like a mom.

Condi dressed like a single woman.

Hold it, wait, what? That's a chick? I thought Hillary was a short fat man with moobs. Holy schnike, no wonder Bill poked everything in sight...

While an exciting lining in a conservative piece of clothing appeals to my sense of fun, the visual is almost always discordant. Unless of course we are talking about a fur lined silk coat. ;D

I don't think I've ever seen Hillary looking so lovely as she does in that photo. Love the flash of secret garden but no doubt I'm peculiar in the way.

Of all the verbs in all the world the one that seems least appropriate for both Condi and Hillary is nailed.

I would simply ask which one licked the problem of Secretary-of-State
wear.

So to speak.

what's the average (true) height of women in government. I'll bet 5'6".

I bet the average height of men is 6 foot, maybe taller when you look at our last three presidents.

that's why women wear heels. they have to catch up or kissup to the guys.

I don't like Hillary, but she seems to have good fashion sense (and never looks dumpy like Albright often did.)

You gotta love Condi's wardrobe, but...

I think that Hillary is wearing something right for her. I think she'd look like a clown in something overly severe. I hate to say that the "hidden garden" makes her look motherly, but most of us are conditioned from birth to obey our mothers. It's not a look that lacks authority.

I vote for Condi, but actually like the idea of a surprise lining in Hillary's coat. Only it should have been a more powerful, 'cooler' lining.

for a blog that is so sympathetic to sexual orientation, you ought to give MA the same consideration. Wasn't she heritagely and religiously disoriented and then re oriented in 1997. I don't expect, though, that anyone might consider heritage and spirituality as important as sex on this blog. Especially with TITUS making light of anything.

COnfession: i personallay am sick of gay schtick. I have to put up with it in my morning swims where I search for my underwater spirituality.

They each appropriately project the image of the administration they serve to the audience addressed by the secretary of state: Condi is dressed like a pocket battleship and Hillary is dressed like a mom on a christmas shopping spree.

I really like the lining of that coat. It's a flash of whimsy, IMO. But I like Condi's Dominatrix outfit even more.

Hillary looks happy and relaxed. Good for her!
