Well, Ezra, I do not delete comments based on viewpoint. I believe in the marketplace of ideas, and to the extent that there are some anti-Semitic comments here, there are many more comments that strike back. Is it not better to have scurrilous ideas out in the sunlight where they can die?
ADDED: In fact, Ezra Klein owes me a correction. He has published a lie about my blog. Alternatively, let him list the commenters he's writing about — I can search their old comments and see if there is anything that deserves to be called anti-Semitic — and we will see if his list constitutes "a lot." I think he cannot do it, so he really ought to put up a correction immediately.

I mean, that's a few years ago, back in the days when Joe could with a straight face call it "The Moderate Voice." These days, it's a joke, a self-executing parody - a bog-standard lefty blog that really believes it's a straight-down-the-middle moderate operation. And Mullen had a lot to do with the transformation, although Joe ultimately has to bear responsibility. As Joe is well-placed to know, the ventriloquist can't blame the dummy for the script.

Titus, when he steps away from his Moby persona, is one of the very few here who can defend his political viewpoints intelligently. He cleaned my clock debating about something about a year ago. HDhouse, Alphaliberal, and several others descend quickly into insults, Maxine and Cederford are just nuts and I don't have the words to define Michael and DTL. No idea where Klein gets the idea many are antisemitic. Especially when there are so many unrefutable examples of that sort of thing on any number of other blogs.

The trashcan icon doesn't always appear and it could be due to: the browser, not being logged in, or the security settings. You can delete the comment without the trashcan icon, but all the directions I find, you have to log into blogger. It doesn't say anything about openid.

The thing that pisses me off a bout this whole spectacle is some of the rage and nastiness liberals have towards Althouse. If they took the time to read this blog they would know she has many of the same political views as them.
I find it weird and a little sad.

I propose an experiment.

Ah, gotcha. I used to like reading Sully back in the day, but now I fear for his sanity. I have never been able to stand Olbermann, and again, Klein is OK, but a bit immature at times. Not that ideological differences trouble me when it comes to dating...anyway.
The United States never spies on Israel. Of course. We only have the largest spy apparatus in the history of time. You can rest assured that we never use it on Israel, or France, or England, or Canada, or Switzerland. Never.
Some of the things Cedarford says has a grain of truth in them*, but this last comment contains a whole lot of crazy. As one example, the Wall Street firms that failed (Bear Stearns, Merrill Lynch) were not notably led by Jews; in fact an investment banker is as likely to be Korean as Jewish. In contrast, the "Jewish" firm of Goldman Sachs did not get caught up in the frenzy.
*What's best for Israel is not necessarily what's best for the United States; for example, most of the oil on the world market comes from Arab/Muslim countries. Throwing Israel under the bus could well earn us favorable treatment from these oil suppliers.

Nowhere does Althouse say she was defamed. She said Klein published a lie "about her blog." She asks for a correction, which Klein rather graciously made.
A lie is not necessarily defamatory. There are more elements to a defamatory statement than just its untruth. Moreover, as Althouse surely knows, a defamatory statement must be about the person claiming the injury, not about someone or something else. A lie "about my blog" may be a lie, even a malicious lie, and not be defamatory to the person who controls the blog.
Surely Althouse also knows that she may be a public figure, especially in the blogosphere, which would require a higher standard of proof to claim defamation.
If Althouse had even thought to use the term defamation, her knowledge of these matters would have stopped her. Maybe it did, or maybe it never even occurred to her to put a legalistic tag on her personal complaint about Klein's post. Either way, it was you not she that used the term.
Althouse asked for a correction. Klein gave what he probably would call a clarification. My guess is that was enough, and the two will be cordial if ever they meet.

What is pernicious in throwing around the term "Israel lobby" is that it implies an organized effort.
There are organized lobbyists for Israel, certainly. But most of the people "lobbying" for Israel are just representing the grassroots American preference for victims of terrorism over proponents of terrorism. If a person went around persistently calling Barack Obama's supporters "the black lobby", you'd wonder what was wrong with them. Why are the obsessing over his race? Can't a person like (or dislike) Obama for reasons unrelated to his race?
Anyway, Cedarford just likes to pretend that Israel is the real target of his ire. But he's got a habit of bringing up Jews even when the topic has nothing to do with Israel, religion, or ethnicity. A good example is his habit of inserting the meaningless phrase "Jewish and Gentile" into descriptions of people he hates.
