"I think it's Althouse's popularity among conservatives that really gets a lot of liberals."

"They can’t fathom how such supposedly narrow-minded right-wingers could appreciate the work of a blogress who doesn’t share our political sentiments and often criticizes our party’s candidates. Her popularity on the right shows that we welcome and appreciate those who don’t toe the conservative line, who hold different points of view than our own."

Read Little Green Footballs these days - the blogger writes a lot lately opposing Creationism, the Obama "Birther" conspiracy folks, and other factions he thinks detract from conservatism. He also posts the nasty emails and comments he gets in reply.

The conservative universe is not one big, happy, welcoming tent. That's just a myth, like any other myth. There's no Golden Age. There's no big huge amalgamation of people who share some values that also happen to be uniformly, or even mostly, extra-specially better than that other loosely aligned big huge amalgamation of folks who share other ideas.

People who have no evidence for anything they say, think in stereotypes and can't tell an opinion from a fact.

Even on Althouse?

I understand that the need among some for an on-line clubhouse in which to engage in small talk, backslapping and adulation for Their Professor is greater than is the need for a place to rationally explore disagreements. What's bizarre is that this blog community can't understand (or doesn't care to understand) why it's not relevant to the larger political discourse.

It's like Wonkette for people overly disposed to convention and social conservatism. Same snark, same sarcasm, same stereotypes of the other side (except not engaged in a witty or satirically meaningful way) - but with the added illusion that y'all know enough about each other to really care for one another. It would be bizarre and fascinating if it weren't such a stark display of loneliness and the sad extent of one's need to feel validated in one's opinions.

Anyway, Best Regards and Happy Easter -

Allan: I come to this site because I cannot figure out
why such an intelligent person could have voted for Obama.

Simple really.

She voted for Obama because of the colour of his skin. As did alot of Dems.

It's not projecting the "need to feel validated in one's opinions", Zed, when one is open to and welcomes their being challenged. But you might have anticipated such an obvious answer had you got the gist of my comment.

Think for yourself much?
