"Maybe Rush Limbaugh was the 20th hijacker but he was so strung out on Oxycontin he missed his flight... I hope his kidneys fail."

That's the Wanda Sykes joke from the White House Correspondents' Association dinner. I'm sure Rush is chortling as he prepares his opening monologue for today's radio show, which will have more than the usual number of listeners. He'll be all why are they always talking about me? and loving it.

I'll update this post when the show starts.

UPDATE: Sorry, I had a computer problem at the beginning of the show. Later, he was talking about Dick Cheney and then Nancy Pelosi — on the torture topic. Did he start with Sykes? I'm guessing he didn't now.

Did Obama laugh at that? I'm sure Limbaugh will find it stimulating, but I find it repugnant. Have there been jokes about the death of political enemies at any of these State/Media Collusion Mixers before?

Fen said...

I curious why Obama was laughing over "I hope his kidneys fail and he dies".

Or perhaps it was light, relative to all the "jokes" he heard about killing off whitey and the Jews while he sat in front of Ayers.

"I Hope his kidneys fail"Hope and Change, baby. Hope and Change.

Sad, and scary, thing is that they really DO believe Rush is as dangerous as Osama.

I wonder if Wanda Sykes' material was made available to Obama's people in advance. I don't know.

What makes people think it's a good idea to make tasteless and mean jokes about people who aren't present at a forum such as the WHCA Dinner? I think I know the answer to that one.

The unintended consequences will be entertaining. Maybe more than Wanda Sykes.

Hoosier Daddy said...

That is the truth. I think the biggest problem liberals have with Rush is that can't get his goat. The more they insult him, the more he eats it up. The worst thing that could happen to Rush is the left actually wisen up and ignore him.

BTW, who the hell is Wanda Sykes anyway?

Do you think it's funny to make jokes about political opponents dying at taxpayer-funded dinners? Do you think that's something that the President of the United States should be seen laughing at? Do you think it's funny to make jokes about drug addiction?

Ok then.

Do you think Barack Obama did a few lines of coke off of Demi Moore's tits last night? I hope his septum falls out!

You're right, it is hilarious!

This is who liberals are and this is what they find funny. If you don't like it, don't hang around liberals. Liberals found the joke funny and liberals find the idea of their ideological opponents dying horrible deaths to be a pleasent and humorous prospect. What else can you say? I guess I would have to be surprised or learn something new to be outraged by this.

As for Rush, I agree that he is laughing all the way to the bank, and God Bless America for that. Free Speech doesn't have to be tasteful, as many comedians frequently demonstrate, but feel free to keep wringing your hands and wailing about that nasty Wanda. Tucked inside Frank Rich’s Sunday column in the New York Times is indication that the newspaper will no longer attend the annual White House Correspondents Association dinners in Washington, which he calls “a crystallization of the press’s failures in the post-9/11 era.” He writes that the event “illustrates how easily a propaganda-driven White House can enlist the Washington news media in its shows.”

“After last weekend’s correspondents’ dinner, The Times decided to end its participation in such events,” wrote Rich. “But even were the dinner to vanish altogether, it remains but a yearly televised snapshot of the overall syndrome. The current White House, weakened as it is, can still establish story lines as fake as ‘Mission Accomplished’ and get a free pass.”

Yes, so now the entire media and entertainment establishment can work in support of a sitting government. Nothing creepy about that. What is stunning about the Dinner was not Sykes, who just said what most liberals believe. What is stunning is that it is supposed to be a roast of the current administration. Yet, all the jokes, except Obama's were about the previous administration. I guess in 2012 they will still be making Bush Cheney jokes. So basically you can't think of any substantive way to defend Sykes' jokes other than "we can do it and so it must be great". Anyone who says "I think it is a really bad idea for the President to be laughing at jokes about his opponents' deaths" is just angry and bitter right?

That is a pretty dangerous and delluded attitude isn't it? Question, is there any joke that Sykes could have made about a Republican that would in your mind be condisered out of line? Anything? Further, if there isn't, then is it okay for Republicans to make the same kind of jokes back at Democrats? If not, then really what you are saying is that Republicans have no right of free speech and any abuse heaped on them is permissible and anything they do in return is unpermissible, which is a pretty crazy way to look at things.

Trooper York said...

It's interesting how quickly the commenters here -- on both the left and the right -- got so thoroughly distracted by mutual accusations of humorlessness, nastiness, bitterness, jealousy, meanness, cry-baby-hood, etcetera, that everyone seems to have forgotten what seems to me to be the central issue in this anecdote: that the President laughed at this vile stuff! I don't know who Ms. Sykes is, and I don't care, and I don't care which party she was going after. I don't care whether Obama was laughing at a joke aimed at a Republican, a Democrat, a Communist, a Social Democrat, a Fascist, or a Hottentot -- but whoever it was,

the President of the United States should not find it funny, ever, when anyone jokes that anyone should get kidney failure and die.

Seriously. Isn't that obvious?

This is making me sad.

I was counting on modern day so-called liberals reaching for and finding their inner maturity once they finally had total control of House, Senate and Executive branch. Now is the time to grow up and actually become adults because everything they hold dear in their hearts is at stake. And it's all about what's in their hearts, isn't it? It's now, or it's never. I should have known better since that control was wrested by kicking and screaming and by constant baby-like bitching and moaning for eight solid years straight through. Silly of me to think their tactics would change once in power.

That's OK. The population generally will be sick of them all soon enough.

I'ts simply not possible to be taken seriously about preening morally over waterboarding three very dangerous enemies of state at the moment in time when another attack was expected following the greatest attack on a US civilian population in its history, and then make jokes at a state-funded dinner about wishing your domestic opposition to die of kidney failure. It does reinforce, though, that the left sees all of its enemies to its immediate right, and none beyond their own noses. Sorry. No crybaby here, no outrage either, just disappointment and sadness that the maturity needed for this historic moment is not present.

And we're to be subjected to lessons on glamour from one of Europe's greatest hags? Pathetic. Why was that woman there anyway?

I've always liked Sykes, and I understand her emotional investment in the success of Obama's administration. I wish the best for him and for her, but I do not see that happening. Obama appears to be exceedingly narcissistic. There's a fault line that will crack. I see him attack his domestic enemies the way Bush refused to do to the right's dismay. Imagine Bush making cracks, or having comedians do it for him, about Michael Moore who stated flatly his goal was to see Bush's policies fail. Like it or not, and I don't, as president Bush had more class than that. As an objective observer of these two regrettably miserable political parties, and why you would align with either one is beyond me, Bush has more class in his little finger than Obama has entirely. I can see Obama can dish out ridicule but like all despots his ego too fragile to take any. That's his Achilles' heel. I'll be surprised if this administration lasts a second term. A shame because it takes at least that long for anything great. Go on, surprise me.

Mrs,

Folks laughed at this, and they laughed at Pelosi plotting to kill BHO and Biden, and they laughed at HRC trying to kill BHO w/ Swine Flu, and they laughed at Dick shooting his friend (laughing about that was also committed by Bushies during the Bush years, which was when W also told a funny about sending our military to die because of fabricated WMD (yellow cake? the next one could be a mushroom cloud?) that may have been under the stuff).

"One pictured Mr Bush looking under a piece of furniture in the Oval Office, at which the president remarked: "Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be here somewhere."

After another one, showing him scouring the corner of a room, Mr Bush said: "No, no weapons over there," he said.

And as a third picture, this time showing him leaning over, appeared on the screen the president was heard to say: "Maybe under here?"

The audience at Wednesday's 60th annual dinner of the Radio and Television Correspondents' Association obviously thought the quips hilarious - there were laughs all round..."

How about this fun (via Sully) from not too long ago:

"Absolutely determined that a good time would be had by all, and equally determined to bring down the house, Richard Nixon appeared as the final act. The curtain pulled back to reveal the president and Vice President Spiro Agnew seated at two modest black pianos (Dwight Chapin at the White House had requested grand pianos or at least baby grands but the Statler Hilton could only manage uprights). This was the first time a chief executive had appeared on the Gridiron stage, and Nixon opened by asking: "What about this 'southern strategy' we hear so often?" "Yes suh, Mr. President," Agnew replied, "Ah agree with you completely on yoah southern strategy." The dialect, as Wilkins observed, got the biggest boffo.

After more banter with the "darky" Agnew, Nixon opened the piano duet with Franklin Roosevelt's favorite song ("Home on the Range"), then Harry Truman's ("Missouri Waltz"), then Lyndon Johnson's ("The Eyes of Texas Are Upon You"). Agnew, drowned him out a few bars into each with a manic Dixie on his piano, and the Gridiron crew got louder and louder. "The crowd ate" it up," Wilkins observed. "They roared.""

Did you fuss about David Feherty's Pelosi joke?

You conservictims sure are crybabies.

In fact as a black gay woman there was a lot she could have done that would have been outrageous and funny.

How about this as a opening line.
"I want to greet you with the famous lines that Barack Obama's father first uttered when he came to America..."Where the white woman at?"

Then she could have mocked the sterotype that black dudes want white woman no matter how ugly but as a lesbian that's cool because that left more woman for her. Or jokes about how dudes from Kenya are really fast and always win in the Olympics and that comes in handy for the President because he wants to run away from his mother in law who is living in the White House.

She could have punctured the politically correct balloon in a big way that a white or hispanic comic or male comic could never do and been very funny.

But that's not Wanda Sykes. Very safe stuff. Not funny. No talent. Hack.

So she was perfect for those journalists. Heh.

Well I guess the problem there is the difference of opinion as to what 'fixing' the country means. For Obamabots, it means sinking us all further into debt so everyone can have free health care, free college and a free pony. Bush deficit spending = BAD! Obama deficit spending = GOOD!. What they did indicated that there were a bunch of people who claimed that Obama partied with them but never partied that hard. With the history of the NYT, I find it hard to believe that they're doing hard-hitting pieces on the drug use of the presumptive Democratic nominee in the 9 months before the 2008 election. Call me jaded but I just don't believe they were willing to interview anyone who might suggest that BHO was more than a casual pot smoker.

I will never forget the issue where they compiled all their previous pieces about these two guys. The BHO stuff was much more critical. And, a lot of that stuff had been meticulously discredited w/ indisputable third party facts on the BHO website.

The only hatchet jobs on McCain where the sort-of accusation of cheating w/ the lobbyist and the poking around w/ Cindy's personal relationships/friendships.

When I first scanned that compilation (by looking at all the headlines) I was shocked that the NYT was trashing BHO, and being relatively favorable to McCain. Then on closer inspection I realized that each blurb under the headlines was a description of a story from earlier in the campaign.

Btw, the piece you first referenced is a validation of the critique from the Right that the BHO-loving media only produces fawning pieces on the politicians they love. I mean, come on, they took BHO's own claims about his drug use, interviewed a bunch of his old party friends and wrote, "oh, don't worry, Obama was just trying to be cool, he didn't really do that many drugs!" So, now we're all supposed to feel warm and fuzzy because the President is historically hyperbolic to sell more books.

To clarify, as I understand, Obama admitted to being a former drug (MJ and cocaine) user, not an addict.

Unlike Lush Windbag, he was not busted for Doctor shopping to illegally procure drugs.

Unlike Lush Windbag, he did not do this well into his middle age but stopped by his early 20s.

Unlike Lush Windbag, he did not reach a plea agreement with the AG. Essentially, a conviction.

Unlike Lush Windbag, he did admit it without being busted and dealt with it.

For people who want to fill our prisons with drug users to march behind a big drug addict is a bit much to expect the rest of us to take!

Rush Limbaugh should have done time.

Why won't he say that he hasn't used cocaine? I think he's used it, just like BHO.
