Um. Yoo? Yoo Hoo!

Northwestern has Dohrn and Berkeley has Yoo. Ain't academic freedom grand?

There's something vaguely familiar about the site your link takes me to. Looks a bit like the site where the link at "O No" takes me to. Coincidence?

Yeah - it's the wrong link. File this one under "Althouse Stumbles"

Bad link. Goes to the wrong article.

I think this is the one Althouse refers to:

Thanks for the link, Paul.

I loved this: The Berkeley City Council has passed a measure calling for the federal government to prosecute him for war crimes

...because we all know how much sway the Berkeley City Council has over the federal government.

Paul - Thanks for the link. What an absurd bit of self-indulgent moralizing.

Are these kids going to keep protesting against the evil Bush administration throughout Obama's 8-10 year term?

And foreign governments as well. yes the home of the cyclotron that produced Berkelium and Californium declared itself a nuclear-free zone:

Dean Edley comes off as something less than a profile in courage.

Anybody have any idea what on earth possessed John Yoo to go to Berkeley, of all the lunatic fringe universities?

Boalt wanted an Asian-American to diversify its faculty. They hired a couple of tenure-track profs, and Yoo won.

Not saying Yoo wasn't qualified, but he did benefit from the principles of Affirmative Action.

Good point. Berkeley would never have hired a conservative if they didn't have a quota to meet. :)

Seriously, though, Berkeley has such a surplus of Asians that the admissions department racially discriminates AGAINST them, just like it does whites. I doubt they're too worried about buffing up their Asian diversity credentials.

As for the influence of the Berkeley City Council, I wouldn't necessarily discount it. One of California's two Senators is an ex-council member, the other represented part of the Bay Area, and the current Representative for San Francisco is Speaker of the House.

San Francisco may have some of the stupidest politicians on Earth, but they are amply represented in Washington. :)

I doubt [Berkeley is] too worried about buffing up their Asian diversity credentials.

You would be wrong. Since Yoo started, precisely one more Asian-American got tenure at Boalt. Subtract Dean Edley and check out this monochrome list.
