Watching Obama's speech.

I'm pretty bored by the prospect of another speech, but I did set the DVR to record. I guess it's on now, right? Okay. I'll check it out. Meanwhile, please blab in the comments to make up for my dullness, if you've got any energy around this.

ADDED: But you know, it's the season premiere of "America's Next Top Model." What was Obama thinking?! With all the networks showing Prez O, how many people are flocking to the feet of the great Tyra Banks?

AND: Blah! O's speech. It looks like a State of the Union Address. That seems so wrong. The whole first 15 minutes — the length of a speech to schoolkids — are consumed with various political entities filing in, congressional pageantry, and adulation of the executive.

AND: "Oh! They're wasting time standing up. What bullshit." I'm irritated as hell by the standing ovations. I can't believe anyone is watching.

Can you draw a curve with this data?

With two points, the best one can hope for is a straight line. "Tax revenues always equal zero" is not that helpful.

have you changed your mind about anything significant in the last 30 years?

Yes. I used to be opposed to abortion and gay marriage.

You know...where we SHOULD have been in the first place?"
Uh, Jeremy, not sure if you know this. But we were there first. Afghanistan happened before Iraq. But I have to laugh at your argument that that's where we SHOULD have been while at the same time arguing about Bush wasting money on wars. If it's a war we SHOULD have fought then unless you are suggesting that democrats would somehow fund a war with no money then you think we should have spent the money there too. So can we say that you and Obama in being for the war in Afghanistna have no problem spending money to fight wars over oil, have no issues bombing innocent civilians, have no problem occupying countries? Maybe the Taliban are the minutemen. Oh and, how come all these people who say that's where we should have been aren't over there fighting the war now? Are they chicken hawks?

With which statement do you disagree? Can you draw a curve with this data? What does it look like?

Perhaps he disagrees with neither statement, but the premise:

FLS -- Your most recent post evinced hilarious ignorance.

It's a curve. It's not called the Laffer Line. Here's a hint: it looks something like a backwards C. Furthermore, at any tax rate between 0 and 100, tax revenue will be positive, not zero. That's another hint.

Anyway, you really shouldn't discuss economics when you obviously do not understand the very primitive basics of graphs.

Sofa -- That's what most leftists ultimately disagree with.

What do you mean you aren't going to work when we take all your money?

Now you're just being pedantic. Empirically, various amounts of taxes are collected at various rates. So FINE, add a third point, anywhere at (Tax Rate > 0 ) AND (Revenue > 0).

In the spirit of pedantry, I should mention that that ought to have been (0 < Tax Rate < 100).

Revenant - "A day without Mexicans?" wasn't created to garner "box office."

How interesting. A movie made by people who didn't want others to go see it? Mission accomplished, I guess.

FLS: I'm pretty sure the government will not tell you to sit straight, comb your hair, or ask if you've done all your homework.

Obama did exactly that on Tuesday. So miller's point stands.

And the government did such a great job stopping lead based toothpaste from China that it overlooked melamine.

So where are the other data points? If the curve was generated by a function, where did it come from?

China is a government without regulation enforcement -- a libertarian's dream, even if a few doggies are killed, and a few children poisoned.

Aw, FLS, seriously?

China—a Communist country that dictates pretty much everything about its citizens' lives, including whether or not it regards products as safe enough, and you just called it a "libertarian's dream"?

You don't find that a little shameless?

China is a libertarian's dream, except for the lack of political, personal, and economic liberty.

Really a silly comment. How about that Laffer Curve, FLS? Figure it out yet? Or do you need more data points?

a government without regulation enforcement is a libertarian's dream. Imagine an FDA that was merely a rubber stamp. Or no FDA at all -- surely no pill pushers would sell anything useless or harmful.

Because no one has supplied any data or derivations to support it, I must conclude the Laffer curve was pulled from Laffer's ass.

Way to draw a line in the sand, FLS.

You really don't care how badly you misrepresent people, do you?

"China is a libertarian paradise."
