How nannies cause little boys to grow up to be adulterers.

"Having two women care for a baby boy may cause his little brain to internalize the idea that there are multiple females to meet his needs."

And then he grows into a man whose little brain thinks he needs more than one woman.

I only scanned the article, but there seems to be no actual data to back up the claim. What we have here is an author making a claim for a new book he's shilling.

Because before nannies, men never even conceived of having sex with as many women as possible.

Fingers crossed that the next post is about Tiger and I can keep this meme going.

this kind of thing is why i think 90% of psychiatry is quackery.

He doesn't offer any data to prove his point. So what he is offering is an untested hypothesis. Well, fine, bother us with your silliness when you actually do a study or two. Not that a study or two proves very much. For instance, if you have a nanny growing up, you tend to be richer than most people. And as mockingly demonstrated by south park, its no mystery why rich men cheat.

In the end cheating comes about by a number of factors. First, yes, some dissatisfaction at home is a factor. Its harsh, but true. Sorry. That doesn't make it the woman's fault, but we are just talking motives here. Second, opportunity matters. Chris Rock exaggerates when he says a man is only as faithful as his opportunities, but he has a point. And there might be emotional needs, such as a lack of confidence that makes you feel the need for conquest. And then there are the things that stop adultry, like impulse control and the empathy needed to recognize how your conduct harms others.

As for this shrink, its just anti-feminist claptrap dressed up as science.

This is from a long discredited field called "psychology." Its adherents are made up of those that went to college with the intent to get either the easiest degree or the explanations for why they are themselves kooks. No one should pay them any attention.

I saw the Southpark explanation of why men desire more than one woman - I think it was closer to the truth.

When you don't have the unconditional love of a parent, a child grows up trying to game whatever adult is in charge of him or her at the moment.

Such kids grow up to be narcissistic adults. And narcissists, who always judge relationships in terms of utility, sleep around a lot.

What tripe! Adultery is giving in to the temptation to sin. It is about lust, self-control, and selfishness, not nannies.

Sheesh.

Last theory you will ever read in Time Magasine is:Boys turn boys into adulterers. But this bold suspicion, written about as if some one believes it, must really frighten the few remaining old time Mormons. IMO adultery is no different from shoplifting. It seems easy until you are caught. Then you can always go into "Treatment" if you are not permitted to return the merchandise and say I am sorry.

"Internalize the idea ...?"

What kind of language is that?

The fact of the matter is that there are multiple women to meet our needs. The dumb preconception is that only one woman should do the job.

The only limiter on the number of women available to meet all of a man's needs (from sex to laundry) is the amount of money he has.

Women will do anything for a surprisingly small amount of money.

Others left because of my preference for eateries that served real country gravy and buttery apple pie. And was mending my torn sleeves asking too much?

I blame this popular, easy clap-trap imitating educated discoveries on the inane Theory of Evolution that claims the same deductive power to see everything as caused by a "natural Selection Gone Wild." This thinking is so disconnected from observable data that reference to such data is not even thought of anymore. At least the original Darwinist Cult practitioners would make up some data as best they could. Now we are expected to just acquiesce in total clap-trap nonsense.

Actually, the Mormon view is that the human's sex drive is God-designed and God-given, but that God requires us to (and each person has the choice and ability to) keep it without bounds that God sets.

Mormons don't believe that these bounds (or indeed any of the commandments) are random tests or some sort of hoops one has to jump through.

Mormons believe that God's commandments mark out the behaviors (the dos and don'ts) that prevent or solve complex and hard-to-remedy human problems at their roots, and result on the whole in a less burdened and happier life.

So a Mormon reads this study and thinks, "OK, so there could be some events or circumstances that could cause one's predilections or urges to flow in one way or another, but we always retain our personal sovereign choice and authority over what we actually give-in to or do."

(I have to ask from curiosity, TG: what is an 'old time' Mormon?)

Going rates for "needs meeting":

1) Maid, 3 hours, $70.00 (in pesos)
2) Lawnmower, 1 hour $20.00 (in pesos)
3) Sexual, 1 hour, $200.00 (USD)
4) Shirts Ironed, 10 for $20.00 (in Rinminbi)

So, that's what maybe $250.00 a week with tips. If your budget doesn't include all four of these you really should think about what it is you're spending your money on.

Life is too short to iron shirts and my wiener is too short to suck it myself.

If Dennis Friedman (or Belinda Luscombe had proper scientific training then one of the things that they'd do is explore alternative hypotheses. One such hypothesis is that nannies are more apt to be found in well-to-do households, consequently the boy will grow up more wealthy than most of his peers and consquently he will (on average) have greater access to females, and unmarried females will display greater sexual interest in him.

Bruce Hayden said...

I would think that even if it is true that men who had nannies growing up are more adulterous, it may be because they grew up in a fairly wealthy household, and that has a couple of ramifications. First, they likely had more of their material needs met, and thus are less used to controlling their wants. And, probably more importantly, as we constantly see with wealthy men in this country, a lot of women make adultery easy when money and/or power are involved. Thus, it is more likely that they had a philandering father in comparison to their less well off peers. And that example is likely to be of more import, I think, than having two women in his life.

I should note that I first noticed this when that Kennedy nephew (Dr. Wm Kennedy Smith) raped that woman in at the Kennedy compound in Miami (ok, Roy Black got him off, but it is reputed to have cost north of a million for that). Uncle Teddy was apparently running around in his boxers looking for seconds. And, I realized that this was a third generation of sexual predator (there were apparently a number of other allegations of rape by Dr. Smith that were inadmissible in FL courts). Smith had grown up in an environment where men were expected to have affairs and exploit women, and despite all his work with victims of landmines, seems to have followed his father, uncles, and grandfather into the later.

Quayle...No offense meant to modern Mormons in my throw away thought about the pre-statehood Brigham Young style Mormons . They would be heretics since 1896, but before statehood required legal changes, those men could always marry extras so that adultery was never a question for them.

Quayle said...

No offense taken TG.

My Great-grandfather was voted territorial delegate to congress from Utah, and when he arrived in Washington DC they wouldn't seat him, and made him sit around on the floor of the house and listen to them debate his black character.

He recorded in his journal that it was tough to listen to men condemn him thus when the only difference between Mormons and most of them was that the Mormons first married the women they slept with.

On several occasions I've read about nannies, usually fairly young themselves, who masturbate boys so they will fall asleep quicker and otherwise be more tractable. I've also heard that in some Arab countries mothers fellate their young sons for the same reason.

I've never heard of nannies doing this for girls. I guess they have to fend for themselves.

"What does having nannies cause little girls to grow up to be?"

This is the thread winner. I was wondering when someone would realize that this "story" is just another in a long professional series of men-bashing articles being written by Womens' Studies graduates to justify their expensive education and worthless degree.

Women raised by nannies grow up to be shitty mothers ... just like their mothers were shitty mothers for leaving their kids to be molested by complete strangers so they could go to work for 75% of what their husbands could have earned doing the same job, but now he's out of a job, because he won't work for 75% of what the job should pay and there are 50 million women in the workforce undermining his ability to negotiate a salary he can raise a family on.

That's what it does to women.

Candi said...

Really? Let’s approach this logically.
1. A large percentage of “cheaters” have never had a nanny.
2. A large percentage of men who have had nannies do not become “cheaters.”
3. Even if we assume that, as a child, the boy misconstrued societal boundaries on relationships with women, it is important that, as a man, he acknowledges receipt of information from our culture about what is and is not acceptable, and he accepts responsibility for the decisions he has made since becoming an adult. In other words, even though he may have misconstrued boundaries as a child, he has since had societal clarification of boundaries, yet he decided to cheat anyway. Thus, the decision to cheat has less to do with childhood misconstructions and more to do with adult decisions to act with disregard for societal convention (not to mention the feelings of his wife or significant other, any children they may have, and any other negative consequences he may experience for his infidelity).
