General McChrystal and his advisers spoke to Rolling Stone — "derisively ... often in sharply flippant and dismissive terms" — and now... what?

WaPo reports:
Preparing for a speech he is about to give at a French military academy, McChrystal "wonders aloud" whether he will questioned about the well-publicized differences in opinion between himself and Biden.
"Are you asking me about Vice President Biden? Who's that?" McChrystal says with a laugh, trying out the line as a hypothetical response to the anticipated query.

"Biden?" chimes in an aide who is seated nearby, and who is not named in the article. "Did you say Bite me?"
More quotes from the Rolling Stone article here:
"Who's he going to dinner with?" I ask one of his aides. "Some French minister," the aide tells me. "It's fucking gay."...

According to sources familiar with the meeting, McChrystal thought Obama looked "uncomfortable and intimidated" by the roomful of military brass. Their first one-on-one meeting took place in the Oval Office four months later, after McChrystal got the Afghanistan job, and it didn't go much better. "It was a 10-minute photo op," says an adviser to McChrystal. "Obama clearly didn't know anything about him, who he was. Here's the guy who's going to run his fucking war, but he didn't seem very engaged. The Boss was pretty disappointed."...

If nothing else, Obama is now trapped by his own malfeasance and dereliction of duty. If he "fires" McChrystal, he has to fire the Joint Chiefs - simply because Obama's gross malfeasance will become the order of the day.

If he keeps McChrystal in Afghanistan, he only confirms his own punk-hood. His best option is to reassign the General.

But it's unlikely he'll get that option, since McChrystal is now holding virtually all the political cards.

Although I'll still say this whole orchestrated business is a prelude to a coup. A salvo across the bow of the S.S. Jive Turkey.

Many in the military know that Obama is Usurping the Presidency (Obama Sr. was NEVER a US Citizen), and have no respect, they just lack the fortitude to do something about it. Obama hamstrung them by escalating a war with no clear objective, and with silly rules of engagement. McChrystal does have leverage though on the Usurper, as he has standing to file for Quo Warranto challenging obama's eligibility if he is fired.

Just for a moment?

Mickey Dolt - "Obama hamstrung them by escalating a war with no clear objective, and with silly rules of engagement."

Yeah, Obama "escalated" the two wars.

And yet another uneducated, ignorant tea bagger with his head firmly planted up his wing nut ass.

Go fuck yourself.

"The rules of engagement are, in many ways, as bad or worse than Vietnam. Their calls for air-suppport and indirect fire go unheeded. Indeed, merely getting an illumination mission (artillery-fired flares) get declined because the CANISTER the flare came in might hit someone...about the odds of that person getting struck by lightning." - Scott M, way back at the beginning.
Oddly, my husband and I were just talking about this and he quoted some friends who have come home from the war saying exactly the same thing. Obama is like Johnson.

The idea that COIN is a THING that can be applied to Afghanistan without it being made into a very different THING that is tailored to Afghanistan as if it's just this brilliant new idea that is something that applies as a whole or doesn't is just amazing. But not in a good way.

And the idea that someone is getting the support of their boss when the boss sits on a request for four months while he is all seriously considering shit and doesn't let you know and doesn't let you know and doesn't let you know and then he says here you go and why don't you have those troops in place already now that I've given you everything you wanted... that's a really interesting idea about what getting support from your boss looks like.

And the administration *did* criticize the military for not instantly having everything in place once Obama felt he'd let them know well enough who was in charge by withholding his decision and making them wait.

Like they weren't *supposed* to wait or something since they got criticized for it.

Anyhow... if McChrystal resigned Obama is going to have to sit down with a pile of dossiers of Generals and talk to them and figure out who he can count on to properly carry out his clearly articulated mission.

Oh, wait...

Maybe he'll just delay the decision in order to show them who's boss.

This incident is the straw that will break Obama's political career. It has now begun circling the drain. Only you can save Obama so dive in you nitwit.

I doubt if I'm the only one who thinks this Afghan thing is not going well. No leadership with no direction means no possible way to complete a mission.

Obama: "We are the ones we've been waiting for."

Sure, Obama, sure.

Bush had this whole thing won with a beautiful war plan in year 6, if only Obama could have taken it over the line in year 7. Sheesh!

As of 6:04 EDT, according to Joe Klein, McChrystal has OFFERED to resign.

* * *

Small FYI. From Article 88 of the USMJ:

"Any commissioned officer who uses contemptuous words against the President, the Vice President, Congress, the Secretary of
Defense, the Secretary of a military department, the Secretary of Transportation, or the
Governor or legislature of any State, Territory, Commonwealth, or possession in which he is on duty or present shall be punished as
a court-martial may direct."

(See http://tullylegal.com/article88.pdf for a paper on Article 88)

McChrystal and several of his subordinates can and should be court martialed.

In the end, The Zero is handling A-stan the way he's handled the oil spill, "When's tee time?".

Like the economy and the Gulf, The Zero now owns A-stan. He may wish he paid more attention.

Granted, McChrystal should have gone the Robert E Lee route and resigned before declaring war. By running to Rolling Stone while still in uniform, he cheapens what points he might otherwise make.

Joe said...

Aaaaah Garage...."It's BUSH's Fault"...of course...also OF COURSE, was the Obama/Progressive/Democrat insistence that Afghanistan was the "Good War" and the one they'd focus on...with a laser-like focus...or was that jobs?

Sorry dood/doodette after talking about winning in Afghanistan, and how that was the REAL Theatre of War, well Obama is STUCK with it. IF it's going to take ANOTHER 100,000 troops Obama needs to pony them up...right, it IS the Good War? The one the Left can support, right? The one we SHOULD have been focussed on, right?

OR was it simply, as many on the RIght suspected, merely a talking point? That the Left supports NO Wars, waged by the US and wants to "lose" this one as quickly as possible.

What we should do, instead, is put everyone in the world on notice, in no uncertain terms, not to fuck with us. Any nation or non-state actor who attacks the United States should be mercilessly destroyed.

Sure, why not? That strategy worked so well for Israel all these years -- and now it's a perfect garden spot vacation land.

You're kidding, right? I'm convinced that Israel's detractors either have the most appalling lack of any historical knowledge or they've just got some weird issue with the Joos.

Let's take a look at your statement. You think Israel has mercilessly destroyed its enemies? When? Not once has Israel gone the distance against one of its enemies. You must be one of those morons who thinks Israel is real tough on the Palestinians. Do you have any clue what it would look like if Israel really decided to get tough on its enemies? Probably not, because they'd kick out all the cameras. You wouldn't hear about a handful of dead Palestinians, but instead they'd all be dead or kicked out.

Look at modern conflicts with truly vicious outcomes. Sri Lanka, Chechnya, Bosnia. Israel could level Gaza in a matter of hours if it wanted. Same with the West Bank, Syria, Lebanon, and everyone else wanting to make trouble. I'm pretty amazed at their restraint, but I guess they care about the opinion of the world.

That would be true if Israel actually mercilessly destroyed their enemies.

That's cute garage considering that most of the conservatives here agreed he was out of line and should have resigned. But like that little shrill danielle, you simply can't help yourself can ya! Partisan snark!

I don't think they give a shit about world opinion in as much as they're a moral people who won't descend to the level of the death cult that is trying to wipe them out.

Once they banned fireworks where I live I decided there was no point. You can buy fireworks in freakin' Red China - why celebrate freedom my ancestors had but I don't?

Nope. Obama is Grouchy. Wandering around the countryside (golf courses) when he's most needed.

McChrystal got all he asked for? McChrystal tried for 4 months to see Zero and get some idea of what the plan for Afghanistan was to be. After all we have a civilian-run military. Finally after 4 months and after Zero spending hours trying to get Olympics for Chicago, McCrystal gets a whole 20 minutes to get all his instructions. Then Zero promptly forgets all about the military. Not exactly a warm and fuzzy feeling of support from his civilian superiors IMNSHO. Personally I think McChrystal did this on purpose to get away from this idiot in chief in DC.
