One thing I've notice the last couple of days:

A lot of left-leaning politically-aware people are talking about Newt Gingrich's run for President in 2012 like he's already won the nomination. See this, this, or this, all posted today at one site alone. Even my fav talk show host Dan Carlin (who is usually correct when prognosticating this far out) sees that it's gonna happen.

Gingrich seems to have the right background for the moment. Plus he's a smart smart felluh. His organization is becoming well-built and looks like it will be effective. I think the nomination is his to lose.

Democrats fear him more than any other potential contender.

Those homemade signs are the best. Shows ya not to use yellow or pink.

Idea: a pop-up page of the Snail vs. Slugs War could be a captured snail being tortured by slugs. The page could look like a dungeon, decorated with obvious torture devices. A large snail shell is the main thing about the page. It is stationary on one side of the central fold. A mechanical arm is attached to the opposite side of the fold and disappears through a slot underneath the snail shell. When the page is opened, the arm extends across the fold. When the card is closed, the arm slides back through the slot underneath the shell and appears to shrink. A snail body is glued to the surface of the arm so that the snail is stretched out of its shell. A stretching table with cranks is drawn around the mechanism. Slugs wearing medieval leather torture sadist costumes are glued around the whole thing. Slime streaks everywhere.

Oh good grief. Newt hasn't got a chance.

He's slimier than McCain.

Newt is dead to me. He lost me with Scozzafava.

Seriously, he has way too much baggage and too high negatives. Beyond my man Fred, who is unfortunately not running, we need a candidate beyond Newt, Mitt, Palin (who I doubt is running), and Huck.

F4P,

Must be youngish, fiscally conservative, squeaky clean, not a whack job, and attractiveness a plus. Is Chris Christie close enough to be able to seize the day?

I'm sure they'd LIKE him to win the nomination, since he's probably the person they'd have the easiest time trouncing.

But he has a lot of enemies and a lot of baggage. He combines the worst elements of Bill and Hillary Clinton, without Bill's charisma or Hillary's gender immunity.

Dead Julius...Are you feeling OK? You sound like a possible concussion victim. Newt is the only candidate that cannot beat Obama. He is that rare southern white old man that comes across as arrogant to the bone. It's bad enough when we only have two choices at election time, but running Newt would give people only one choice...the GOP might as well re-run Dole as run Newt.

Deb said...

"Democrats fear him more than any other potential contender"

I doubt that. They are probably lighting candles to their favorite saints praying the GOP nominates him.

Yes yes verily. A dream ticket Newt and Sarah or Sarah and Newt...very much what I dream about at night.

This is the Newt of the famous quote: "Honey, unplug that chemo-drip would ya? Got something I want to tell you. You know that gal who shows up in a lot of situations with me..ya' that's the one...well, my divorce lawyer will explain the rest to you as I've got a hearing on Clinton's transgressions to chair...imagine the bastard cheating on his wife...I'll fry him".

hi ho hi ho..its off to work we go...

Ahhhh Newton...wow that apple fell a long way from the tree. Neutron Newt: "Vote for him...he's radioactive!"

Newt speaks out?

Remember Newt in the Big Easy??

I will never for for Newt.

He's a selfish, self-centered know-it-all.

End of story.

My garden is producing beautiful tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, green beans, red Chinese peppers and habanero peppers.

Today, I'm going to make Chinese chili sauce out of the peppers. Still waiting on the habaneros to ripen. When I traveled to Chichen Itza, the tour group stopped for lunch in an extraordinary cafe in the village of Valladodid.

The cafe served a habanero relish that was so wonderful. I ate two bowls full and had explosive diarrhea for two days afterward.

I've been looking for this recipe, but have had any luck. Anybody know anything about this? The relish has a vinegar base, and it is just about all habanero with a touch of garlic.

DJ;

First my cursory review of your links didn't demonstrate a lotta Newt love nor Newt fear. If there are Dems saying he will win the nomination then there are either:
1) Talking a sure-fire loser -OR-
2) Revving up the base -OR-
3) falling victim to the "smartest guy" should be the candidate meme

Here's my take on the Newt fixation

this:

seems contradictory to this:

You sure you want that recipe?

Yeah, I want the recipe.

Eating two bowls full was the problem.

Gotta show some restraint.

Barack Obama has murdered five more people in Pakistan.

According to CNN, Obama ordered the US Military to execute the men - suspected but not proven to be militants.

The alleged "militants" received no trials, and were not provided with a court-appointed attorney. They received no due process of any kind. They were simply ordered to be killed by the President using a drone missile.

We wouldn't know any of this except that Obama military officials are unable, apparently, to follow orders.

CNN reports that the men spilled details about the murders even though they are "not authorized to speak to the media."

Here is CNN's report about the murders:

deborah, Chris Christie I like (although I thought he was wrong to get involved in the GZ Mosque issue the way he did). But no, he will not be ready to run in 2012.

Your points seem to fit Paul Ryan. It may be too soon for him, but I think any candidate has to put fiscal restraint front and center.

Newt? Please, no.

We need something new, without baggage. Someone with experience in creating jobs, simplifying organizations, and expanding freedom - not another Rinosaur.

The nation is heading into an iceberg, and we waited too long to admit it. Now we need more than a slight tap on the rudder.

jungatheart said...

Well, NHH, that's one info-packed article. Here it is in full:

"Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- A suspected U.S. drone strike killed five suspected militants in Pakistan's tribal region on Monday, intelligence officials tell CNN.

Two intelligence officials say two missiles were fired on the vehicle of suspected militants in village Khar Qamar of North Waziristan, one of seven districts in Pakistan's tribal region bordering Afghanistan.

The intelligence officials asked not to be named because they were not authorised to speak to the media." [my bold]

Hey, I said non whack job. I really don't know much about him, but he comes across as too doctrinaire and way too young. I daresay Christie would do much better in the General if he won the nomination.

Chris Christie for President 2012!

(But only because Jeb won't run.)

In the primaries Newt Gingrich would get his own vote and then who else?

Nixon came back something like 3 times.

As far as his personal life, Gingrich has never claimed to be an angel. Clinton's behavior has inoculated him as far as I'm concerned.

Enough time has passed since Gingrich left the house.

Well, we all get grossed out from time to time.

I'll probably continue to be a "rambling attention whore" for the rest of my life, which isn't that long.

And, some wisdom from my late, brilliant wife. The problem isn't being a whore. The answer is learning how to be a good whore.

Chris Christie is 48. Today as a matter of fact.

Paul Ryan is 40 and is serving his 6th term now. That means he was elected when he was ... 29? 30 something?

Christie - Ryan ticket? (Or is that too much smart finance stuff. Ryan could be be Sec Treasury? Prez would seem to be ok.)

Would like to know more about the non political aspirations and core beliefs of David Petreaus. Of course ... his father was an immigrant, and maybe he doesn't qualify if his father didn't have his green card or citizenship?

If Jindal runs for Prez watch the Dems get all hissy about his parents not being citizens. Heh.

Very Good Deborah.

You've pointed out just how the media is packaging the war crimes of Barack Obama.

Here are the facts:

1) Barack Obama ordered the killin of five people. CNN doesn't even mention Barack Obama in its these killings.

2) Those people have received no trial.

3) Those people were not granted any hearing before any tribunal of the judicial branch of our government. They have received no due process.

4) The victims were alleged to be "militants" however no actual proof of this is even submitted to us. We're expected to believe that that Barack Obama is infallible when deciding which foreigners to kill.

5) They were killed in Pakistan - a country the United States Congress has not authorized a war against.

It is illegal for the President of the United States to order the United States military to kill people (without attempting to take them into custody) just because he suspects they might be "militants." That is clearly a war crime.

A military policy of "kill everyone" and "take no prisoners" is illegal and universally abhorrent and yet the media in the United States refuse to even ask Barack Obama from where he derives this ultimate power to murder anyone he wishes.

It's the most shameful period in our country's history - ever.

And it is my firm belief that anyone who votes for Barack Obama knowing this is guilty as an accessory after the fact to these murders.

Anyone who votes for Barack Obama shares his guilt.

jungatheart said...

NHH,
"5) They were killed in Pakistan - a country the United States Congress has not authorized a war against."

They could have had authorization from the ISI.
