I wonder if he'll be heckled. If he can get the business from protesters at a New York City fundraiser, he's not safe anywhere, even a bastion of liberalism like Madison.
"Moving America Forward"LOL. Could they have come up with a more awkward slogan?
Moving America Forward stikes me as a slogan for a digestive relief product.."and it's guaranteed to work by 8AM!"
Yes, I got an email yesterday from the Union telling me to go:As you may have heard, President Barack Obama will be visiting Madison on Tuesday, September 28. We would like you to be our guest at this very special event!Details of the event are still being arranged - click here for (deleted) to contact you as information becomes available. The President is visiting Madison - his second visit to Wisconsin in a month - to share an important message: the upcoming elections are some of the most important that we've faced in decades. In these extraordinary economic times, professional public employees are under attack like never before… and we need to elect labor-friendly legislators to state and national government to fight for us. Please join us for the rally next Tuesday. It is more important than ever that we work together to elect pro-working family candidates! To which I add: Blah, blah, blah.I'd love it if I got an email that said: This election isn't very important at all, but still, go out and vote.
"Moving America Forward"With a blindfold over the eyes, the point of a cutlass in the small of the back, and a plank underfoot.
No offense to Obama, but why do you want to go?You'll be out on the periphery of a crowd and Obama will be a speck in the distance.Might as well watch on TV.Since it's likely to be little more than a statement of the usual cliches, I'm not sure it's worth watching in its entirety on TV.I'd watch the highlights on the evening news.If there is anything interesting about the event, it will probably be the crowd. I would be interested in observing and asking the participants why there bothered to attend.
No doubt the usual airport closures and flight restrictions will be in effect during the visit. Some people just weren't cut out to absorb terrorist attacks.
Obama's visit conflicts with a huge sports event for my kids.Sorry Barack. My kids would've like to see it (What high school student doesn't like to see a President?), but they'll be elsewhere.Weather looks nice for it. If the leaves are changing, it could be very photo friendly.
So which course is he checking out there? And '"Moving America Forward"'Huh?That's like Endeavor to persevere in the Outlaw Josey Wales. Meaningless.
I wonder if Feingold will be "busy" that day.
I wonder how much trouble you'd get into if you threw a tomato. Not that I think you would. But maybe Meade will go with you.
Can I assume these folks will be standing behind the president's podium? That would be a great network clip.
But has Russ Fiengold gone into hiding until his President leaves town? Maybe that is Obama's new fund raising strategy: Offering NOT to come into a Democrat's contested state in exchange for a large payment. He can call that KenyanGeld.
Boy, going into the heart of enemy territory. How brave.
I glad you're certain. Personally, I often don't know whether I'm planning or not.
Glad I don't work in Madison. Commuting will be Hell.Pastafarian said...I wonder how much trouble you'd get into if you threw a tomato. The Zero is a barrel of laughs compared to the Secret Service. I'd leave the fruits and veggies at home.
Glad I don't work in Madison. Commuting will be Hell.I wouldn't think so. If he's coming in from the airport, that's against the rush-hour flow. It might clog up that part of campus, but there's been construction in front of the Union all summer so people are used to it.
Yeah, boo him all you want. Sing his praises à la Kim Jong-Il, if your mania bends that way. But please don't assault the President with salad ingredients. He can't be expected to absorb that
And now begin the "Will you cancel class?" emails.Grrrr.
Not that we should be surprised but here's a likely reason why President Obama returns to Madison.
"The president is extremely excited," Derrick Plummer, regional press secretary for the DNC, said.I can't wait. I mean what does it take to get the POTUS "extremely excited?"I have no idea what that might look like, never having seen it. "It's going to be a great start to the last five weeks of this very important campaign."Yup. I guess that's what POTUS does best -- campaign. Now whether the Dems out there *want* him to campaign for them is another question.
In an unrelated email, the Feingold 2010 Committee has announced that Sen. Feingold will be participating in the annual Lake Superior Fisheree on September 28 in support of his long-standing commitment to the sport fishing industry.
And what's with the various Dem iterations on sloganic groups for Americans?Moving America Forward? Organizing for America? A bit Orwellian. Or Soviet-ish.
JAL, he doesn't even look excited when he's playing with Bo, the family dog.
st:"No offense to Obama, but why do you want to go?"She wants to be like Forrest Gump.
Mybe you could ask him how he could be born w/ allegiance to Britain and still be a Natural Born Citizen.
"Moving America Forward?"It's a special appeal to Wisconsinites. "Forward" is our state slogan.
There's an irony to the phrase "Moving America Forward" when combined with Obama's oft-used metaphor of America as a car that has been driven into a ditch. When your car is in a ditch, moving forward is not generally the optimal strategy.
I'm certainly planning to go.Of course, Ann wants to see her hero up close.
If Dubya held a rally I'd go.
Three and a half years ago, I went to an Obama appearance in L.A. intending to ask him a difficult question. My goal was to intellectually engage him and show how he wasn't fit to be president.I got almost zero help with my subsequent attempts to encourage others to go to his appearances and intellectually engage him, and in this case all Althouse is going to do is go there to get a few photos. The reason why I can't get any help with such efforts is almost certainly due to the "intellectually engage" part. Who needs that when you've got loopy signs?
I'll be en route to Taos, for hiking, eating and drinking. My flight should be a few hours prior to any motorcades. So, please convey my warmest regards.
It is more important than ever that we work together to elect pro-working family candidates!I'm against working families. Kids should be in school. Shame on Obama.
Wacko, I appreciate your idea of showing up at events and taking a chance on getting to ask a challenging question. I think I might try it sometime...I'd have my sister video it and everything. My problem, and the problem of most of your readers is inerrrtiaaa. Have you ever had any of your volunteers' vids get on the news?
I got a robo call at home from some union (not sure which one; I don't belong to a union) urging me to go to the rally. And if I planned to, they wanted me to call them to let them know. Strange.
If he's coming in from the airport, that's against the rush-hour flow.Well, I'm sure he's not parachuting in. And the high-speed rail line isn't done yet.
MM said: "Yes, I got an email yesterday from the Union telling me to go".Oh, you mean the Memorial Union?
Obama is bigger then The Beatles.
Moving America ForwardSo can I anticipate that the next campaign isThe Great Leap Forward?
Not the Memorial Union, just the Union I'm required to be a member of because of one of my jobs.
OK, it's probably the same union that contacted me. I think the call said "your union", but I only listened once and erased it, so I can't go back and check. Thing is, I'm a faculty member and not a member of a union.
Salamandyr said...There's an irony to the phrase "Moving America Forward" when combined with Obama's oft-used metaphor of America as a car that has been driven into a ditch. Nor, as Rush Limbaugh points out, is leaving the car in the hands of the Democrats who have had possession for the past two years only to strip it.
Let's hope you go with your eyes wide open this time to see who you are really voting for instead of just blindly accepting what he says. You should realize that the one you voted for was a real loser and see to it that you don't vote for candidates like that this time.
Yeah...don't even think about acting out in any way or display anything political or iconic. Three friends and I went to a Clinton Gore Rally in the Bay Area as he was campaigning hard on saving the Headwaters Forest, the last significant stand of ancient coastal redwoods. So we turn up with our green save-the-redwoods tees on, all excited to participate (no, I am not a tree hugger, but some things should be preserved and 1000 yr old trees don't, um, grow on trees.)As we passed through security, after three hours on line, a member of the campaign's screening team demanded we remove the "cause" tee shirts as none were allowed. When we balked as we had nothing to change into and offered to turn them inside out they became exceptionally rude. A couple of older women in line behind us in Sierra Club tee-shirts demanded to know why this wasn't posted outside the event or in their case, printed on the event sign-up sheets, they sicced a Secret Service guy on all of us. It was very embarrassing, we left and had a nice lunch and a glass of wine with the Sierra club ladies. Only useful idiots, sheeple and party zombies need apply to these staged events.

Best comeback to the Obama-ditch meme I've seen I drove into a ditch once. To get out of the ditch I put it in ‘R’ and slammed on the gas. (shameless stolen from Jim Geraghty @ NRO's Campaign Spot)
