Does this mean everything will be turned up to 11?

It feels like you're visiting from the future.

Eleven minutes until a reasonable TV station, the Discovery Network, becomes the Oprah Winfrey Network.

The back-to-back ads about big bowls of love and closure are cutting into my episode of Dr. G. Medical Examiner.

Happy New Year, fellow groundlings!

Although I'm already an hour into it here in Florida.

And BJM, this year, EVERYTHING goes to 11!

Check out the 2011 glasses..

Not as aesthetically pleasing as when we had the two 0 0 zeros.

I thought she'd just grab a new channel, not take over something useful. That is not good news.

I'm looking forward to 11:11 a.m. on November 11, 2011.

Think anyone will be buying Powerball or MegaMllion lottery tickets with the numbers 1 1 1 1 1 1?

Which brings to mind something that I've been puzzling over. The chances that the super-lottery number will be 1 1 1 1 1 1 should, theoretically, be equal to any other six-digit combination. But it's never turned out that way, has it? And wouldn't you be foolish to intentionally bet on such numbers?

Word verification: coldef.

@Irene

Doncha love the acronym OWN?

Oprah has surpassed Martha in the branding biz.

@edutcher

Winfrey's OWN channel is a 50/50% JV with Discovery's parent corp DCI.

DCI financed the start up and have distribution rights to the US, Canada and the UK.

Discovery will move to another channel position in cable line-ups where OWN displaces it.

Did anyone notice that Discovery has a roster of new programs set in Alaska? I saw an ad for an Alaskan COPS style show too.

Looks like Palin's show was the high profile launch of DCI's reality show expansion into the Alaskan lifestyle (TLC is owned by DCI).

A win-win for DCI, Alaskan tourism and the Palins.

When Comcast takes control of NBC-Universal more network professionals will jump from the broadcast mother ship to cable.

I'm waiting for 1 2 1 2 1 2.

Klein was right, just not about the year. Barring some sort of national calamity, catastrophe or the Repubs driving off the cliff, 2011 is a placeholder year for the general elections. I'm already bored.

The local running gear store sponsored a free 11k this morning. That was the farthest I've ever run in my entire life. Hooray!

I must say that the 11k runners looked a lot more serious than the usual 5k crowd. Gazelles suited from head to toe in Under Armor. I was dressed more like Rocky.

@BJM, yes, the "OWN" thing is nauseating.

All the ads last night promoted self-help-type shows. The promotion for one slot featuring Sarah Ferguson was especially difficult to watch.

The Alaska State Troopers show is excellent. We also like Frontier Force, which focuses on Montana law enforcement. Both shows will teach one not to wander in the backwoods alone. BEARS!

"The falling leaves, drift by my windows.
The Autumn leaves of red and gold.
I see your lips, the Summer kisses,
the sunburned hands I used to hold.
Since you went away, the days grow long.
And soon I hear Old Winter song.
But I miss you most of all, my darling,
when the Autumn leaves start to fall.."
