"Sarah Palin is not to blame for shooting of Gabrielle Giffords; left-wing rhetoric just as vicious."

Ah, now you see why the accusations backfire (if I may dare to use that word): the occasion has been created for conservatives to list every violent-sounding thing any liberals or lefties have ever said about anything.

Knock yourselves out.

If I may use the expression.

AND: Michelle Malkin is rising to the occasion, compiling the list.  I'll just contribute this poster I photographed in the window of a shop here in 2004:

Democrats are enemies of America
Democrats tried to lose a war in order to hurt Bush and Republicans (except for those who hurt bush trying to lose the war). What else shall we call them?

No DLCers talking about hanging or shooting anyone.

Um, an elected Democrat said candidate Rick Scott should be shot.

You can't even acknowledge this happened.

The big problem being it's not a joke and a lot of people take it seriously.

And yet the number of violent incidents perpetrated by Tea Partiers remains at zero.

We've been asking conservatives to tone down the eliminationist rhetoric for years

When Whoopi Goldberg said "If Rush Limbaugh suffered a heart attack in my presence, I would laugh loudly, where were you?

Substantiation, jaybird--what you and yr cronies lack.
Maybe start a trend---stupid generalizations, supported by something called "evidence."

There was evidence of Loughner's psychosis, before the shooting. Why didn't it pop up at the Tuscon gun boutique?? Maybe because a glock's sort of pricey and good sale for the Bubba behind the counter.

IOW, the gunstore owner/salesman should be charged with a capital crime for selling a high-powered semi-auto firearm to a blithering psychotic. The shades of Madison and Jefferson would agree with that.

The targets in question are actually archery targets, so that's qualitatively different than rifle scope crosshairs

OOPS, it looks like you're a silly little liar:

Funny thing about those crosshairs. They ain’t crosshairs. These are crosshairs. The images shown on Palin’s map are crop marks, commonly used in
printing.

No matter, you've got a meme and you'll never let go.

Um, there is no doubt that Bill Maher wished that Glenn Beck would die.

It is on video.

And you're a drooling imbecile.

Lost on you: the fact that he was never committed.

You're so dumb I almost feel sorry for you.

Laugh out loud funny.

After 48 hours of "tea party violent rhetoric" no less!

You do realize there is no evidence of any "violent rhetoric" by the tea party, right?

You do realize this guy:

"That Scott down there that's running for governor of Florida," Mr. Kanjorski said. "Instead of running for governor of Florida, they ought to have him and shoot him. Put him against the wall and shoot him.

Was an elected Democrat, right?

J said...

Huh, what, jaybird? Some of us don't listen to Foxnews clowns, or Maher & Co.

We're talking about Arizona, and it's a states' rights issue--google dat (ie, Cali has much stricter gun laws, and the punk would not have obtained a glock, legally at least). So, the issue is--should the gunstore owner be charged with a crime for selling to Loughron? (hint: ja). And probably will, or at least catch a civil case. Freedom's not for psychotics, left or right, jaybird (as most of the regs on AA demonstrate).

I think the issue for Democrats is when they hear someone like conservative radio host Joyce Kaufman say: "I am convinced that the most important thing the Founding Fathers did to ensure me my First Amendments rights was they gave me a Second Amendment. And if ballots don’t work, bullets will. This is the standoff...." - it gets you thinking.

Or if you have Glenn Beck fantasizing about killing Michael Moore or Beck [again] actually brandishing a gun on his own site, or when the head of the NRO says: "Our Founding Fathers understood that the guys with the guns make the rules." it makes one wonder.

Or when there is so much anti-government rhetoric the question for Democrats is; "when will there be violence - because it sure sounds like that is what some Conservatives want."

So when you have a crime like this in a state that has had some political issues lately then the Democrats jump to conclusions.

If this timeline doesn't give you some pause then I'm not sure what does.

Just to be clear, a bunch of juvenile idiots wearing "kill bush" t-shirts and holding up signs at poorly attended protests is *exactly the same as* a candidate for senate suggesting we may be headed towards "second amendment solutions"?

A map showing states to target in campaigning is *exactly the same as* placing cross-hairs on individual districts and listing the names and locations of people to take out?

Yes, certainly, it's so common to have people walk up to a state and shoot it in the head.

There's a little matter of scale here - simply put the violent rhetoric on the far left is minimized and does not have the communication apparatus that the violent rhetoric on the right does.
That *doesn't mean it's not there*, and no sane person suggested it did.

The entire culture is filled with too much violent rhetoric and *right now* that rhetoric emerges at a national level predominantly from the right.
This is simply observably true.

During Bush was this different? Perhaps (I'd argue against this personally, but it's not germane).
When republicans return to power will this change? Again, perhaps.

Who cares? I'm worried about right now. So let's all take a deep breath and tone down the violent rhetoric, which, at present and upon a national stage, stems predominantly from the right.

Ah Matt, I'm glad to see I've shamed you out of the concern-trolling, and you're back to some up-front partisan hackery. Just as dishonest, but more lying jackal, less lying weasel. Jackals are a bit more manly. Maybe you can have a little chat with Jim about this.

Considering no law was broken, no.

But you're not smart or informed enough to talk about this issue, so why are you?

If you ignore the volume of death wishes of: Limbaugh, Beck, Cheney, Bush, by liberals, then yeah it is "observably true"

How does it feel to be such an silly, ignorant, liar?

You are a pathetic liar.

President Obama said "they bring a knife, we bring a gun" and you can't bring yourself to comment on it.

Today the Democrats lost my wife's vote, perhaps forever. She's substantially less political than I (no surprise there) and more willing to consider Democrat candidates come election time.

But not anymore.

She went grocery shopping today with the car radio on, and when I got home today I got an earful about what liberals were saying about the shooting. She's pretty disgusted -- as far as she's concerned the liberal response to the tragedy is to (1) try to take away our right to self-defense, and (2) try to limit political speech to liberals, first and only.

So garage, Alpha, et. al., you may want to re-think your tactics. I grew up near Chicago; you'll never get me to vote Democrat. But you can't afford to convince people way closer to the center than I am that they don't ever want to vote for Democrats.

We are men of peace we are men who work and we want no quarrel. But if you destroy our peace if you take away our work if you try to range us one against the other we will know what to do. If you tell us to make the world safe for democracy we will take you seriously and by god and by Christ we will make it so. We will use the guns you force upon us we will use them to defend our very lives and the menace to our lives does not lie on the other side of a nomansland that was set apart without our consent it lies within our own boundaries here and now we have seen it and we know it.

Put the guns into our hands and we will use them. Give us the slogans and we will turn them into realities. Sing the battle hymns and we will take them up where you left off. Not one not ten not ten thousand not a million not ten millions not a hundred millions but a billion two billions of us all the people of the world we will have the slogans and we will have the hymns and we will have the guns and we will use them and we will live. Make no mistake of it we will live. We will be alive and we will walk and talk and eat and sing and laugh and feel and love and bear our children in tranquillity in security in decency in peace. You plan the wars you masters of men plan the wars and point the way and we will point the gun.

I've only read this blog for about 20 minutes but it appears there are very few people here who make any attempt to see both sides of an issue.

Beyond that, I'm amazed at how many people are lumping others into groups that they believe are always wrong about everything.

I guess I'm in the miniscule minority because I agree with some of the philosophies of both the democratic party and the republican party. It follows that I disagree with both parties on certain issues.

An endangered species, that's me. We're talking about the vanishing politically middle-of-the-road American.

Sad to say but it appears to me that the majority of posters here are too wrapped up in hating the other side to really give a hoot about making our government work.

I doubt if any of you even know the difference between a democracy and a republic. I suspect most of you really couldn't care less.

Here is a succinct counterpoint, and the context for my comments, to Malkin's list: Credit to Digby for compiling thelist from reporting at Crooks and Liars:
____________

-- July 2008: A gunman named Jim David Adkisson, agitated at how "liberals" are "destroying America," walks into a Unitarian Church and opens fire, killing two churchgoers and wounding four others.

-- October 2008: Two neo-Nazis are arrested in Tennessee in a plot to murder dozens of African-Americans, culminating in the assassination of President Obama.

-- December 2008: A pair of "Patriot" movement radicals -- the father-son team of Bruce and Joshua Turnidge, who wanted "to attack the political infrastructure" -- threaten a bank in Woodburn, Oregon, with a bomb in the hopes of extorting money that would end their financial difficulties, for which they blamed the government. Instead, the bomb goes off and kills two police officers. The men eventually are convicted and sentenced to death for the crime.

-- December 2008: In Belfast, Maine, police discover the makings of a nuclear "dirty bomb" in the basement of a white supremacist shot dead by his wife. The man, who was independently wealthy, reportedly was agitated about the election of President Obama and was crafting a plan to set off the bomb.

-- January 2009: A white supremacist named Keith Luke embarks on a killing rampage in Brockton, Mass., raping and wounding a black woman and killing her sister, then killing a homeless man before being captured by police as he is en route to a Jewish community center.
