Watching the election results.

Results reported here.

On the TV station we're watching, News 3, with 6% in, Prosser and Kloppenburg are tied at 50%.

UPDATE, 8:50: 51% Prosser, 49% Kloppenburg, with 9% reporting.

UPDATE, 8:55: According to the Milwaukee State Journal, with 11% reporting, it's 51% Prosser, 49% Kloppenburg.

UPDATE, 9:30: On TV, they seem to be pre-spinning a Kloppenburg loss, saying what an amazing thing it is that she has come close to beating an incumbent.

UPDATE, 9:36: 34% reporting, David Prosser 265,662 (50%), Joanne Kloppenburg 263,356 (50%).

UPDATE, 9:54: With 49% in, News 3 has Prosser at 51% and Kloppenburg at 49%.

UPDATE, 11:08: Paul Soglin has won the mayoral race. He's speaking now, looking extremely tired.

UPDATE, 11:14: Kloppenburg had gone up, but now they're back even at 50%.

UPDATE, 11:35: Concentrating on the AP numbers, looking at which counties still need to report, I'm irritated by the way Waukesha (strong for Prosser) and Dane (strong for Kloppenburg) seem to be holding out, like it's a game of chicken. Right now the candidates are 50-50%, with Prosser up 6,000+. It's been seesawing back and forth, with Kloppenburg up some of the time. To my eye, it looks as though there are more votes left to report in the places that are pro-Prosser, so I think in the end Prosser will squeak by.

UPDATE, 11:43: Dane (Madison's county) is nearly all in. I don't see how Kloppenburg can net more than about 3,000 with what's left of Dane. Waukesha is now shown as completely in, but the numbers didn't change, so I think something may have been misreported. I took the trouble to do a calculation and was going to predict that Prosser would net 40,000 more votes in Waukesha. What happened?

UPDATE, 11:55: There will be a recount, I assume. All those absentee ballots. The possibility of some fraud. It's nearly midnight here. Maybe we won't know the answer for days.

I live in St. Louis.

Do you really think the remaining precincts in Dane and Milwaukee counties will report actual vote totals? I don't.

They'll either "find" enough "misdirected" bags of ballots to swing the vote, or come within the recount percentage and argue voter intent for months until Prosser finally surrenders.

Our motto - don't let 'em get close enough to cheat.

They did climb, but if my memory serves me correctly, the cement bunkers were engineered, but the guns were not yet installed in them.

You can go there and see it. Great place for kids. A large field on top of a cliff, with bomb holes, and the German engineered cement personnel bunkers and gun bunkers still in tact, mostly.

Mostly it's very comfortably employed government and academic workers, students and people who make their living from the foregoing. They have a great gig and they are well organized in its defense.

Reince Prebius not throwing weight behind a nonpartisan judge candidate was probably smart. Some voters actually value the judge who isn't a sure vote one way or the other, but rather is a judge.

Kloppenburg probably inspired all the true GOP partisan voters against her, but the hard truth is that Prosser was not their ideal candidate, but rather just a judge. He isn't much of a politician, and it makes sense that a lot of people in blue cities felt they had something to vote for in a way their conservative counterparts were not so directly motivated.

the Tea Party could have made a loud case for an independent judiciary, but they are grassroots that can't be pointed at a problem like a cannon.

Prosser's lead got bigger - must have been from Waukesha.

See-saw between Waukesha and Dane all night.

Beta Rube said...

Prosser pulling away a bit? Dare we hope a 6k vote lead at 94% reporting?

Hah made me laugh. But unfortunately it's a true statement.

KC, no, WI doesn't have an automatic recount provision, but candidates can request one.

Up to .5 percent margin, the state pays for it, and I think they can get one up to 2 percent, if they pay.

Prosser seems to be winning blue collar Dem counties....Racine, Brown, etc. Maybe those attacks on unionized Georgia Pacific didn't go over well with Reagan Democrats. If a Democrat can't win those two counties....

Washington Co. pulled it off.

Washington County is 100% in with a 20k edge for Prosser.

AP has 243 of 248 precints reported, but still 68 out for Waukesha.

I'm all in with HOPE and CHANGE!

That last surge was Washington County. Still waiting on Waukesha.

Hell his lead just really went to 6,000.

"Palladian, So who is Hercules?"

Hmm... Besides destroying the Althouse Hydra, our Hercules would be a commenter who can kill a lion (pretty much any of the lefty commenters, since they're always lyin') and a bunch of man-eating birds (Dust Bunny Queen, Lawgirl, knox); capture a swift deer (readeriam), a big boar (Simon), a cretin bull (Jeremy) and a multi-headed dog (Maxine Weiss); muck all the shit out of a giant stable (delete every comment ever left by the Althouse Troll Hydra in one day); steal a bunch of angry, flesh-eating horses (plenty of those protesting around the Wisconsin capitol building), a magical girdle (from Lee Lee's Valise), a giant, ugly monster's cattle (Trooper York's commenters), and some golden Apples (all the MeadeHouse's computers).

A rare commenter, indeed.

So maybe the voters are not so worried about poor widdle govt workers afterall.

Harry Phartz said...

No, seriously. There is nothing better than winning close in this kind of race. It's a ten year term, right? The other side is pissed, and for a long time.

Racine County is quite conservative...the city of Racine is Democratic controlled but the suburbs like Sturtevant are conservative. And its even more conservative as you go west of I-94.

Fortunately, I guess, the State of Wisconsin has set a precedent allowing us to threaten death, occupy buildings and vandalize public works in order to void the will of American voters.

Sorry to the decent Wisconsinites among us, but your State is a fucking disgrace. An absolute affront to human dignity. How you idiots perennially elect such scumbags is beyond me. Just don't vote if you're that fucking stupid!

Klopp just reeled him in a bit with a good dose of Eau Claire, but I don't think there's any way for her to catch him at this point.

YES the counties with the most precincts outstanding are the most corrupt and they are coming in for Prosser!

Sloanasaurus said...

It looked like Dane County was going to get over 200,000 votes, but the last tally put a damper on that. Now it may be only around 180,000 or 80% of the 2010 vote. Great turn out, and Prosser got crused there but I don't think its going to be enough. Still, there are always those votes lying in the back room....

Chennaul said...

So the AP has Dane Co. with about 6 precincts still out, and Milwaukee with 13 still out.

They show a lot out for Waukesha but we all know how that got hinky before.

Chuck66 said...

If Prosser pulls it off......what will the pundits say? Was it Big Public Unions race to lose, and they did? Was it overreach on their part?

We know the left was motivated to vote, but what caused the Prosser voters to vote? Hell, I don't always vote for races like this and I am obsessed with politics.

JohnJ said...

Now only four wards of Dane not reporting.

No *obvious* surprises left.

Dustin said...

"YES the counties with the most precincts outstanding are the most corrupt and they are coming in for Prosser!"

Back that up with evidence. What corruption do you associate with Prosser votes? Is this just dumb projection, based on Madison law enforcement acting corrupt?
