Ezra Klein "felt a swell of patriotism" when he read that "bin Laden's body would be handled in accordance with Islamic practice and tradition."

"Somehow, that’s a nice, final touch. But it speaks to what bin Laden was: a bag of bones and meat. A body, like any other. Most of what changed in this country after 9/11 was our choice, not his. And his death is a reminder that changing it back -- or revising it to better fit our future -- is, similarly, our choice, not his. We’ve killed him, but we haven’t revisited the ways in which he changed us, or the ways in which wechanged us in response to his attack. Maybe it’s time we did."

The lefty meme is: It's all about us.

Suffice it to say that you have an extremely erroneous notion of what the military term "briefed" means.

Classy, really classy as well as:

Jeremy at 1:37 Pm - "Fuck off"

Jeremy at 2:54 Pm - "Fuck off"

Jeremy at 2:59 Pm - "You're a fucking idiot"

Jeremy at 3:17 Pm - "Fuck off"

Jeremy at 4:00 Pm - "Fuck off"

It's no wonder people don't take what you say seriously. Which is too bad, because you do bring up some good points - "Fuck you" is not one of them.

As someone said " - This just happened YESTERDAY."

And isn't it interesting that the body and any evidence that could be gleaned from it are gone forever.

Is that reasonalbe? To not wait a day. Or two. Not months. Not weeks. Not years. A day?

Nah that's just crazy talk right garage?

Hoosier Daddy said...

I never take bigots like Jeremy seriously. They are fun to poke though.

It just strikes me as very strange. Very strange.

No you don't. You just hate Obama and don't want him to get any credit. Which is pretty pathetic when you think about it.

Synova said...

"And virtually all of our top military brass is behind this hoax? LOL"

I don't believe for a moment that it's a hoax. I want to speak to the abstract, okay?

In order for 9-11 to have been an "inside job" or anything other than what it most obviously was, the conspiracy and complete impenetrability of bounds of secrecy would have had to dwarf, by magnitudes, what it would mean for "all our top brass" to be behind faking Obama's death.

Yet Trutherism thrived and otherwise supposedly sane people weren't ashamed to state in public in front of the entire nation that "fire doesn't melt steel."

As a measure of just what people are willing to believe it suggests that "deathers" won't even have to stretch very far to get there.

It's unfortunate, and I think possibly inevitable. I wish they'd brought him back for some sort of "viewing."

Still, there are people who deny the holocaust and the moon landing, so there you go.

Trooper York said...

I don't hate Obama. I feel exactly the same about him as you did about President Bush or Governor Walker. I think he deserves the exact same amount of deferance and respect that you give those two individuals. No more and no less.

Why couldn't they wait a day or two? Is that so unreasonable? Or does it seem strange?

GM said: No you don't. You just hate Obama and don't want him to get any credit. Which is pretty pathetic when you think about it.

I want Obama to get the appropriate amount of credit.

I am quite certain that he and his political team want him to get way more than the appropriate amount.

Which is really pathetic, when YOU think about it.

Hoosier Daddy said...

Quayle - Are you saying that if we respect a fallen enemy's religious beliefs...that's a bad thing?

Well its liberals like you who keep insisting that Osama bin Laden was not acting in the true name of Islam and how he hijacked Islam and that Islam teaches peace and love.

So I'm not sure what religion we should have been respecting since bin Laden obviously was not practicing Islam.

Trooper York said...

You don't have to be a right wing wacko to think that they jumped the gun.

I mean don't get me wrong I am a right wing wacko. But still this is very strange. Unusual to say the least.

Bodies have evidence. As I had said several times if they did an autopsy and gathered all the evidence and will release it that I will be happy to appolgize.

garage mahal said...

That wouldn't satisfy you, Hezbollah, and Hamas either, I suspect.

Synova said...

And no, getting rid of the body nearly immediately is not *reasonable*.

It won't be viewed as reasonable.

We can also count down to the problem of the "America captured him alive, tortured and mutilated him and then got rid of the evidence" rumors, I mean "recruiting efforts", as well.

It will happen.

So Obama used intelligence gathered from "enhanced interrogation" (nee, torture) to send an assassination squad into a sovereign country that poses no imminent threat to America to blow up a home while shooting everyone inside.

All things silly, ignorant people like you railed against from Oct 2001 to Dec 2008.

Nonsense. The dominant media meme is "Obama is such a big hero".

Hoosier Daddy said...

I give Obama a lot of credit for this. I also give him credit for realizing that Islamic terrorists are bad people and that closing Gitmo is a bad idea even though he promised you lefties he would. I also give him credit for stepping up drone attacks and killing more Islamic terrorists even though you lefties get all verklempt when terrorists are killed.

So yeah, when it comes to killing bad guys he's shown he's got the stones to do it just like Bush. And just like Bush he got us into another Middle East conflict with a country that presented no threat to us.

And just like Bush he's tanking the economy so I'm not sure why you're such a syncophant over the guy who is a lot like Bush.

You’re so full of it. Your phrasing “pretty please with sugar on top” is clearly sarcastic and condescendingly aimed at liberals meaning you’re actually of the opinion that method doesn’t work. Waterboarded, then later questioned without waterboarding but with the memory of having been waterboarded. I'll let you decide if the waterboarding had any effect.

But the answer is: yes.

Last night I was pretty happy with Obama. Of course, I gave all his knob-polishers and other sycophants shit, but that's simply because O's rhetoric didn't match his actions--and in this case that was a good thing.

But now I'm starting to think that he fucked this easy win up. The proof should have been immediately forthcoming: photos, video, DNA, the whole nine yards. I have no doubt they got him. But the conspiracy theorists should have been nipped in the bud.

DADvocate said...

country/decency/justice/unity

What kind of dumb ass would fall for this shit form you? Mam and apple pie? Gimme a break. You lefties sure are defensive, just because I don't want to teabag Obama because he killed Osama.

You should have seen Lawrence O'Donnell and Rachel Maddow using this as an opportunity to go after Bush. WTF?? He's been out of office for over 2 years. Obama's following his lead in the war against terror. We'll never know the whole truth, and I really don't care if we do.

But, there's nothing wrong with an open mind looking at the possibilities. Of course, an open mind frightens those who don't want to think, but would rather rigidly adhere to an ideology no matter how flawed.

I'm not getting on the suicidal Obama bandwagon. He spoke well tonight at the dinner tonight. One thing's for sure, he understands unity better than you do and that we won't always be on the same side. Unless he changes dramatically, which ain't going to happen, I'll never support him.

But, I wasn't attacking him. I was attacking idiots like you, Jeremy, etc who can't stand the slightest criticism of Obama or any other deviation from your immature world picture.

Yes. Bush set the parameters but left those functions to professionally trained military men. Kudos to him. Obama did the same. Kudos to him too. A journalist, administration official, or talking head do often use inaccurate terms when describing something. It's up to the reader/listener to integrate that into an understanding based on the way the real world operates. Seems you can't manage that.

Duh.

Dustin said...

the ABC spin on this is that Obama didn't honor Osama with any attempt at a Muslim tradition, because they found a muslim who complains about sea burial (even though that is OK in Islam if there's worry about the body being defaced).

I guess the democrats didn't focus group this idea if they have flipped from 'how decent we are to do that!' to 'we did no such thing!'.

Either way, I'm still so happy Obama and his administration ordered this and had a success. I think they are a terrible administration, but they got this one right.

Destroying the body so fast is pretty dumb, though. I don't think there's a hoax. I just think they are idiots who got very lucky that Bush's hunt for Osama succeeded a few months after his administration ended.

For Synova and the rest of the teabaggers who think president Obama was merely "briefed":

From U.S. News & WOrld Report:

"Think for a minute about where we would be this Monday morning had this operation failed and resulted in the loss of American life, the killing of civilians, and bin Laden still on the loose. President Obama made a very tough call, knowing that his presidency and his political future would be in tatters if the raid proved unsuccessful. [See a transcript of Obama's speech on bin Laden death.]

In short, he put his political future on the line in order to rid the world of bin Laden.

And it was not a snap decision, but typical of President Obama—well thought out, meticulously planned, with constant consulting of expert advisers. It was a true test of presidential leadership.

If, as Ernest Hemingway described it, courage is “grace under pressure,” this is precisely what Barack Obama displayed."

Jeremy said...

For Trroper and the rest of the "deathers"...

"An official, who declined to be identified, said the daughter, aged 12 or 13, was one of the people who had confirmed that the mastermind of the September 11, 2001 attacks had been killed by U.S. commandos in a raid early on Monday." (ISLAMABAD - Reuters)

About where we were after Carter's blunder. Kudos to Obama for understanding that his function was to stay OUT of planning and control and limit his role to being briefed and giving the GO command.

Duh.

'In short, he put his political future on the line in order to rid the world of bin Laden.'

Wow. Unlike U.S. News & World Report, I believe that Obama saw the equation differently.

'If, as Ernest Hemingway described it, courage is “grace under pressure,” this is precisely what Barack Obama displayed.'

Leadership is not courage. Hemingway would have laughed his ass off at the USN&WR for printing this.
