"We're sending this mailing to you and your neighbors to publicize who does and does not vote."

Incredibly creepy mail today from the Greater Wisconsin Political Fund:

Untitled

I obscured names and addresses, but be assured, this was a list of real names and addresses of people who live near me, with the information about whether they voted in the last 2 elections. This is an effort to shame and pressure people about voting, and it is truly despicable. Your vote is private, you have a right not to vote, and anyone who tries to shame and harass you about it is violating your privacy, and the assumption that I will become active in shaming and pressuring my neighbors is repugnant.

Not voting is a valid choice. If you don't have a preference in the election, don't vote. If you think no one deserves your vote, don't vote.

This may be the most disgusting thing I have ever received in the mail.

Hey Vic! I just cruised over (long day) and clicked on the comments for this post and here you are! Nice to see you. Hope all is going well.

We've been missing you you (most of us ;-) ) and hope you drop in more often.

Why thanks, JAL! I truly miss one and all on Althouse, my forever cybernetic home base.

As I mentioned, though I'm not home, I will stop by on Tuesday for the recall election returns banter.

Althouse has consistently provided an invaluable blog service, since Wisconsin made the news over a year ago.

"Not voting is a valid choice."

I agree, but I don't find the outrage in publishing public information.

Funny...when I got mine, it said I hadn't voted in the last election - I had. I checked with a few of the neighbors on the list - all of them had when the list said they hadn't.

Oh. By the way. This also points up the utility of adding a new option to every electoral ballot --- "None of the above."

When all of these political gasbags, blowhards and spokesholes get outpolled by "None of the above," they can take all of their pretense of public approval and stuff it where the sun don't shine.

What are these liberal nutjobs saying? Are they really comparing this to Verify the Recall? On one hand you've got a resource for looking up information.. you know, if you actively want and choose to do so. On the other, you've got information being shoved down your throat in the form of a mailer that you may have no interest at all in. Really? They're the same? Making statewide information publicly available is a completely different concept than targeting specific communities in a perceived effort to get people harassed into doing something that they've actively chosen NOT to do.

Isn't this what the DOJ is supposed to be "monitoring" ? Oh wait...it's from a left wing Dem. group...I am sure it's already been green lighted...
