"I look pretty good, don’t I?"

What George Bush said to Ann Romney after she... oh, she didn't really see him naked! And he was only trying to put her at ease because she was so embarrassed.

Just about to get back to the WH. A surprise dessert is announced to celebrate our electoral college advantage. NYT Nate will be there, and so will Gail C. Gwen I will be there from PBS and ODonnell and Chris M. from MSNBC.

It is going to be fun. I wish I could invite you all along, but hey, only those who are winners can come. And, you know what, all POTUS supporters are winners.

GOP, losers who needs you?

It is hard for me to stay mad at GWB.

Not my favorite president, but talk about "likeable"! Can you imagine if it had been Obama she walked in on?

Ha ha ha!

If she had walked in on Obama he, too, would have said "I look good, don't I?"

Except he wouldn't be joking or trying to put her at ease.

The more I see of Ann Romney, the more I like her.

She had a long interview with Cavuto; you got the impression she knew the sliming that would await her family, but the commitment to the country comes through very strongly.

Heh. Agree with Godfather-- of all living POTUSes, I find Bush by far the most likable. The one I'd most enjoy hanging out with.

How funny to think back, not that long ago (but OMG that long ago?!), at the fact that I voted for Al manbearpig Gore and at the time felt not just disappointed, but perplexed and embarrassed for America over Bush's victory.

(9/11/01 was a big turning point for me in my engagement with, attention to, questioning of, and orientation in politics. I was in Berkeley at the time, which was likely a factor. But I was raised by an entrepreneurial businessman/ immigrant father and Reagan Democrat who'd inculcated in me an appreciation for the blessings of the American Constitution and the free market system, which facilitated that conversion.)

Re "POTUS I'd most like to hang out with," Clinton is off the table, because I don't want to want to be hit on (by Clinton). Although it would be tempting to try to get Clinton to speak "off the record" about Obama.

After almost four years of Obama incompetence, W is looking very good indeed.

"don't want to be hit on"

Not "don't want to want to be hit on"

Heh, very different meanings.

Yes W has been made to look very affable and humble by our obsconder-in-chief.

Humility and humor play big roles in the ability to work with others.

Clearly teh won is so caught up in 'he himself' and 'I me' making a historic point that he couldn't care less about anyone else.

Affable men don't necessarily make good Presidents.

W is a good guy. Not always a good politician, and not always right on policy (yes, understatement, I know), but just a good guy.

Bush = a good guy, and a below average President. A disaster in many areas. It is hard to stay mad at him.

...Ann Romney said she once walked in on former President George W. Bush receiving a massage in the White House

Don't you just love a story with a "happy ending"?

I agree with that. The real problem as I see it is that he stacked his admin with neo-cons. I think he was one of the worst presidents but there's nothing personal in that for me. I'm just sorry he got it in his head to want to be president.

Hate him all you want, President Bush was personally a class act.

I think that Bush took what is politically equivalent to a scourging. He never answered the evil, malicious stuff with anything but politeness.

That said, I believe I personally liked him too much to hold him as accountable as I should have. The spending? Come on. It was too much. The Treasury Department collapse? Now Tim Geithner has way too much power because Bush got away with a blank check for Treasury.

I kind of like that for me, Mitt is just business and competence. When he goes too far afield, I will have no problem voicing opposition. Politely, of course.

Am I the only one who thought of the old Lovitz bit: "I saw Barbara Bush in the nude... but then they made me put a robe on"?

Still, cute story, and nice to hear about a guy who took his office more seriously than he took himself.

At the time, there were a lot of things that Bush did that I wasn't too thrilled with, but I get the sense that he did what he had to do to keep his focus on the War on Terror and its aftermath. We may be now watching the unfolding of a bit of history that shows that to be the right call.
