"I was on board the chopper with the door off — our pilot flew in nice and close to the top of the spire and hovered there for about 5 seconds as I stepped OFF, yes, stepped off..."

"...and onto the top of the rock which is only about 2 sq ft. Our director was holding my arm from inside the chopper as I stepped out to the rock — where our safety guy (who had climbed to the top – that’s right – climbed) grabbed my other arm to make sure I didn’t fall off the 125 ft rock and down to the ocean below."

Jeff Probst describes how they got that shot that begins the opening sequence in the new season of "Survivor." It disturbed me to see him there, and the video — here — of how he got there is scary too.

And here's that book "Stranded" that Probst wrote with a co-author – a novel for kids about kids stranded on an island.

Sounded initially like a LRRP being extracted from a hot LZ.

I don't watch Survivor - not even knowing one of the set designers personally. I have watched a few episodes here and there because I know her, but I've never liked the concept of the show. And, as I told my friend, I want to them do the show somewhere cold, where people can't win by taking their clothes off and where the shelter actually has to be a shelter, not a a shady spot.

Probst does love a macho stunt. Riding outside the helo, swinging from the vines etc. This one was actually quite macho. Looks to be shaping up to be a good season, too. Yes, I watch this tripe. Unapologetically. If you're going to watch tripe, watch some good quality tripe. Gergawdsake, I didn't buy a tv just to watch the fake news.

Kentucky Liz-- I, too, have read "Lord of the Flies." In fact, I used it in the English class I taught to adolescents. I don't think I'd refer to it as a "kid's" book, however.

And when he falls to his death or dies in some other stupid self inflicted way, we are supposed to care?

Wow. Nice job. Of course, like he said, the real macho guy is the one who climbed up there and then back down.

Probst once corrected a journalist who said "Survivor" was a reality show. "Unscripted drama" was more like it, said Probst.

He gets a hat tip for a little honesty.

Couldn't have done it probably.

I have been in a helicopter with the door off. I kept my seat belt as tight as possible without cutting off circulation.

Love it that you posted this. I too was stunned when I saw that shot at the intro.

Also surprised that the beautiful people haven't learned from past episodes that they can't all join up and act like high school again. They don't have the numbers nor the smarts and always get taken down as that group of four models will starting as early as next week perhaps.

Ha ha. Yeah. The high school four. Doomed!

This Survivor promo doesn't look like much compared to the horrifyingly high (not to mention teensy) perch that woman stands on in the Citibank ad ("Somebody left the gate open . . . "). Of course, I've never known whether she's really standing there or if it's some visual effect.

I've done Outward Bound. The rest is just a bunch of useless drama.
