"Livin' in the home of the brave...."

Alicia Keyes festoons the National Anthem with an additional line... and now we are livin' in the Super Bowl comments thread here at Althouse.

ADDED: Beyonce. She lip-synched at the Inauguration, and now she drew so much power to boost that performance that she wrecked the whole second half. At least she didn't wreck the whole second Obama term. I hope!

I though both Alicia Keyes and Beyonce were great. Especially Beyonce. Boo-tay-licious. Hot damn.

Who is Alicia Keys?

{{Googles and watches anthem video}}

Why can't we just have a straight take on it for now. The Star Spangled Banner is not a torch song. Just real bad. Just get up there and sing the song with respect.

Totally agree

re: racist ads Arab-American groups say Coke Super Bowl ad is racist

{{Yawn}}

"Why is it that Arabs are always shown as either oil-rich sheiks, terrorists, or belly dancers?" said Warren David, president of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, or ADC.

That "sustainable energy" worked out swell for the game, didn't it?

Didn't see the opening, but I did see the halftime show. I've no doubt that Beyonce can sing and dance, but it's just not my thing. The more I see of lighting effects, special effects etc., the more suspicious I am that there's not that much talent involved other than doing an aerobics class (which I certainly acknowledge takes some skill).
Nice looking woman, but yeah, she points at her vagina a lot.

Who is Alicia Keys?

She started the trend among vocalists of writing and performing hooks to make rappers raps rhapsodic. She stole New York from Frank Sinatra and reinvented it.

They're just h8tin' on Beyonce 'cause she's a beautiful, strong, sexy successful black woman. No visible tats and married to her baby-daddy. Good on her.

All the suburban squares at our watch party loved the halftime show and were 1/2-1/2 on Alicia Keys.

Talk about a low bar to clear!

what an unsatisfying ending. Bad call and then a run out of the clock.

What is wrong with having a visible tat?

Looks to me like 50% of younger people (say 30 and below) have tats or piercings now.

I'm amazed sometimes at how many of my (50-65 year old) friends have tats, including me.

@AprilApple, did you see how far out of bounds the pass came down? It was a no-call because you can't have interference if the pass was not catchable.

Co-sign with Bob Dylan on Alicia Keyes.

"There ain't nothin' about that woman I don't like."

I don't see how Beyonce's slithering on the stage at Halftime was any worse than Michelle Pfeiffer slithering on the piano in The Fabulous Baker Boys.

I didn't actually see Beyonce. I got home and the power was already out. So I must have missed the half time sho.
But, I will say, if you're going to go all strip tease,at least go all the way.

When FlashDancers gives you a better show than Michelle Pfeiffer or Beyonce, maybe the act aint that good.

True, Beyonce can sing and the dancers at Flashdancers can't. But if she weren't accentuating the T&A would we really care?

I would have liked the show a lot more (even though I didn't actually see it) if there were some wardrobe malfunctions.
WHat Beyonce really needed was the crowde treating her show like the burlesque that it was and scream out "Show your tits! Show your tits!" like they do at spring break

Big Mike,

The catchability of the pass is only relevant on a pass interference call, not a holding call.

I looked at the replay of the final pass, it actually landed a step (or less) out of bounds. That means Crabtree would have had a chance at catching the pass while still in bounds.

An absolute heartbreaker for the 49ers. This will either cause them to spiral downwards or create a singular goal of rectifying this incorrect result in 12 months.

The niners will be fine. They have a great young QB and an outstanding young coach, their future is bright. Too bad Jim Harbaugh did not run Kaepernick earlier in the game.
