"Coming with me to clean up dog poop?"

Meade asks. I say, "That's not me... but can I blog about it?"

Meade, who's getting ready to go out for some dog park volunteer work, says okay, but only if I link to this comment on yesterday's "Obama’s insulting salary stunt" post:

He won't even feel his sacrifice. And if he does, he can ease his tiny pains with another deluxe vacation and a few more concerts at the White House performed by whichever pop stars his daughters are enthusing over this month.

Just like you didn't have to feel any real sacrifice from Act 10.

I doubt you ever rub elbows with the peons at the bottom of the food chain who did feel it.

OK Professor, help me understand, who are the "peons" in this analogy?

Or is this another of you word plays (i.e. pee)?

And think plants are at the bottom of the food chain.
Okay, I'll accept it as my job to pick up the metaphorical poop. I didn't call people "peons," and I didn't mix a metaphor of "peons" and "food chain." I don't even know why Meade imposed that condition on my use of his poop quote.

A "peon" — according to the (unlinkable) OED — is "An attendant, an orderly; a footman or messenger having subordinate authority over other staff. Also: a junior member of staff in an office."
1973 P. G. Wodehouse Bachelors Anonymous i. 8 ‘She treated me like one of those things they have in Mexico, not tamales, something that sounds like spoon.’ ‘Peon?’ ‘That's right.’
"Peon" actually used to be pronounced pyoon. The pronunciation "pee on," however, is better for punning.

Anyway, "peon" seems to be an unusually apt word to refer to public sector employees, who are the people affected by Act 10, the GOP's approach to budget balancing here in Wisconsin. We — I include myself — were required to make contributions to our pensions and health insurance. (Before the 2010 elections, we lost money via the Democratic plan, which imposed furloughs.)

Given the "pee on" pun, perhaps garage meant to evoke pity for the public workers and outrage at me and Meade for declining to condemn Act 10.

A "food chain" is "A series of organisms, each of which is dependent on the next for food, esp. by direct consumption or predation." Where are the public sector employees in the metaphorical consumption and predation? Maybe taxpayers think they are at the bottom of the food chain? The public servants paid by tax money should hardly want to be seen as the predators at the top. But that makes more sense than perceiving the taxpayers as the predators.

"Rub elbows" — the OED tells us — means "to come into contact."  Examples:
1916   L. N. Parker Disraeli ii. 56   You would pass him in the street without the faintest idea you had rubbed elbows with one of the world's greatest powers!
1956   ‘B. Holiday’ & W. Dufty Lady sings Blues i. 16   A whorehouse was about the only place where black and white folks could meet in any natural way. They damn well couldn't rub elbows in the churches.
But you damn well could rub elbows with one of the world's greatest blog commenters at Poopstock '13.

Ritmo, I didn't include you in my criticism for a reason, because I don't feel you are a bully. I loathe bullying and it doesn't matter who it is the victim, decent people don't stand by and not say a word.

And Zemo's intent wasn't harmless. Abusers always tell others to butt out and mind their own business.

Edutcher says: I called on you to produce some evidence to back up the claim you made several weeks ago that the kids some people have, the dumber they are. I've been hounding you for something to back it up and you've been running away.

I said I'd stay away, but I'll break that for now. The problem, of course, is that I didn't make the claim you said I did. And when I asked for you to show that I made that claim, you came up with nothing. It's a simple concept - you're asking me to provide evidence for a statement I didn't make. Even you can see the problem with that, right? Well, maybe not.

And thanks for the concern, Areasonableman,, but edutcher likes to dish it out harshly and without much support. He gets the courtesy he deserves.

I think Inga tell you that I'm not her favorite commenter more often than not. However, today on this thread, I'm in full agreement with her. Zemo, for a guy who restricts who can post on his blog you are pretty free over here with your commentary...and Inga is right, it is not funny.

Althouse put up a policy about good faith posting. Unfortunately she isn't enforcing it in your case, and a few others that just swoop in to denigrate now and then. She's erring on the side of free speech, and more importantly, it is HER blog. Unlike you, who hides behind a contrived firewall....but feels free to pop in here and be stupid using another tag.

This thread was about dog poop and had a touch of humor to it until assholes like you and several others made it everything but....and made it personal about professions and avocations. You said one should be proud of their "rice bowl"...okay, bigmouth, how about you and yours? Do you really think being a wanking Brooklyn haberdasher is special?

You accomplished one thing positive, schmuck ... so irritating me that it's time for another direct deposit to the Althouse coffers....which I do from time to time when irritated...sort of penance for shitting around here. No, how about that, we're back to the topic once again.

I just realized why Althouse's use of "decent people" resonated/bothered me so the other day: Long time Madison people will remember when (back in 1973) Mayor Bill Dyke famously said that the "decent people of Madison" would re-elect him rather then chose Paul Soglin. I delivered newspapers everyday back then and soaked up all the political jargon and phrases that made the headlines.

I've concluded that "decent"--as a political adjective--has been destroyed by both parties and, like those other words on Orwell's list, should be relegated to the dustbin of history.

Poop scooping is one of those "Dirty Jobs" that many Americans feel themselves above.

Shall I enumerate the number of times certain other masters of thread derailment swooped in to destroy otherwise thoughtful discussions? Pick just about any gay marriage themed thread in the past 5 years.

Do you really think being a wanking Brooklyn haberdasher is special?

Do you know of any others? -- those that had their own TV show? No matter how short-lived?

I would never give money out of sympathy like that. It's like mercy fucking. I save the ka-chinging for when she does something extraordinarily brave like stand up to the pressure from her leftist friends.

I still say, you did.

And you still weasel.

But let';s go back to your making light of the unemployed.

I asked what you thought of 900,000 people out of the workforce.

What you thought of .4% GDP last quarter.

You think it's so funny.

Just like you don't want to answer my original contention about how will the Lefties prevail if people like garage are beginning to see the light.

You've been ducking questions all day the way you've spent the last 2 weeks ducking the multiple children question.

So, address some of it, or do you need AnUnreasonableTroll and the rest of your sockpuppets to come save you?

Assertion doesn't equal proof. Provide the links and quotations. You can't because I didn't make the claim you say I did and that apparently you've been obsessed with. I'll be nice and say you just have a bad memory. As to the rest, sputter, sputter.

Sympathy? WTF? Did I say that? Is that your take on it? You are so special you think anything you might do is a reward for being special like you?

Yeah, a self absorbed haberdasher who makes his blog "private" but feels free to shit all over others...why no, I have little regard for that. I should?

edutcher said...

When someone says something some phony folksy doesn't like, sputter is the best he's got on it.

And he made the contention to Erika that more children means less intelligence on the part of the parents.

Erika challenged him several times. I asked him to back it up then and I ask him again.

He can't do it.

He likes to shoot off his mouth, but doesn't have anything to back it up.

And he can prove me wrong anytime he wants.

somefeller said...

One last time, provide the quotations and link. That should be easy if I said that, right? Right.

edutcher said...

No, you made a statement and now you can give us the documentation to back it up.

You started this, not me.

but you can also answer my questions about your flippant attitude toward the chronic unemployment in this country.

You can also address what I said about how the Lefties are in trouble if people like garage are beginning to see the truth.

You like to see yourself as a big Lefty, one of the ruling class, come to enlighten all us poor, benighted Americans with your "wisdom". How do you win if all those low info voters can't be fooled anymore?

That was my original comment, but you were afraid of that. You picked a fight over something else and made a fool of yourself.

so now, you can address my original contention.

Calm yourself there little buddy.

The Nutty Perfesser and Meade were more than happy to get right down there in the mud with me. Witness their ripostes.

Blog hits and comments are what it is all about for them. Not for me because I don't need hits or comments on my blog. It is two different things. And I don't want or need them to link to me.

If they don't want me to post on their blog they can say so. There are threads with 400 comments where this was hashed out. Also all instigated in a dispute precipitated by a certain insipid wombat whose fake concerns are the funniest thing on this thread.

They extended the welcome mat. They can pull it back anytime they want.

I would of course respect their wishes.

No edbutcher, you look to be the fool. Would you please stop your demented yapping?

It's a real pain when someone questions the Lefties' tolerance and compassion, isn't it?
