"The interview was part of an ongoing roll-out of Chelsea Clinton’s public persona."

"Last week, the formerly camera-shy first daughter hosted several panels at the Clinton Global Initiative."

What? Her public persona wasn't rolled out before? This is some new re-roll-out. Is she going to go away again, hope that we forget, then re-re-roll out?

Remember how she was a TV journalist and failed and excused on the ground that she was "set up for a fall"?

That's at least TWO posts you've gotten from a NYPost article that said "Some sources believe Chelsea was 'set up for a fall.'"

Yeah, that Chelsea really milked that.

I can understand, in theory at least, why Country Club Republicans would be comfortable with family political dynasties. "He's from a good family" and all that.

But why are the supposedly egalitarian Dems so comfortable with dynasties? That I find just weird.

Personally, I don't think we've had a political aristocracy worth shit since the end of WWII. Even then, they thought waaay too highly of themselves.

Parade Magazine had a big cover story about Chelsea this weekend. I think it was titled "Lean In" which is also part of the book title written by Facebook's Sandberg's in which Sandberg tells womyn how to succeed like her.

Chelsea Clinton seems to be a quite nice young matron and should stick to just that.

chickelit said...

A second generation Clinton would only be interesting to me if she publicly repudiated the worst of her parents. Since she's nominally Christian enough not to do that, I assume she's of no consequence--sort of like Carolyn Kennedy.

Really, why discuss her any further?

I'm Full of Soup said...

My favorite Chelsea quote from the Parade magazine story is:

"I’m grateful to live in a city, in a state, in a country where I strongly believe in the confidence and ethos of my direct elected representatives."

I wonder if she thought that when GW was president.

LBJ's daughters at least got a semi-beautiful designation.

I saw that big spread in Parade this weekend and skimmed a couple of paragraphs before skipping to the back in search of the puzzles and celebrity recipes. A bunch of boring craptrap about Global Success Initiatives and other self-important buzzwords. I believe I remarked to my husband, "Who gives a rip about Chelsea Clinton? Anyway, she needs to have a baby before her eggs wither away."

Chelsea Clinton's public persona?

Given her father's history with women... I'm more interested in her private persona ;)

I'd rather talk about Margaret Thatcher.

She's like the Nancy Sinatra of politics. When you are terrible looking and talentless, there is very little the usual channels of nepotism can do for you.

Until she says she's gonna run against Chuck Schumer or Kirsten Gillibrand in the primary, I'll assume she's waiting until, as has happened for most of her life, something is handed to her on a silver platter.

LBJ's semi-beautiful daughters were witchlike.

tiger said...

She is as relevant and not as 'important' as Caroline Kennedy:

Two women who are deemed 'important' not because of their accomplishments but because of their last names.

If Chelsea wasn't a Clinton no one would pay attention to her. She's done nothing of import on her own and most likely won't accomplish anything great (or mediocre for that matter) with her life.

As for going to a top-notch university?

Well as Bill Buckley said: He 'would rather be governed by the first 400 names in the Boston phone book than by the faculty of Harvard.'

What a depressing set of topics today -- good people dying or liberal dumb-nuttiness spreading.

Do even Democrats want to see Chelsea running for office before she's done anything?

edutcher said...

If we're dissing Chelsea's looks, actually, she looks like her mother before she had the work done, although you'd think those two could have found enough of other people's money to get her teeth fixed.

No, it was pretty much of a dead heat.

Carol said...

Remember when they tried to launch Caroline Kennedy? Up until that point, she had been so quiet and mysterious for so long, that I assumed she was intelligent and thoughtful.

Then, under public scrutiny she turned out to be stoopid. Couldn't even speak coherently.

Come to think of it, Chelsea's got to be a step up from that.

rehajm said...

Will she still be off limits for questions while she's campaigning?

damikesc said...

Her public persona seems to be "Really, really, really boring individual".

"Last week, the formerly camera-shy first daughter hosted several panels at the Clinton Global Initiative."

What the hell can she add to the event? "Have my daddy give me jobs far above my base level of competence" seems like poor advice to 99.9% of the population.

Rumpletweezer said...

Chelsea and her mother are both well-positioned for election to high public office. If nothing else, the 2008 election proved--once and for all--there is no requirement for previous accomplishment...so long as you're a Democrat.

Chuck66 said...

Carol....the MSM lapdogs said about Ms Kennedy: "It's in her DNA"...about her running for US Senate.

To which all of us on the right said "I wonder if getting drunk, driving off a bridge and killing someone is in her DNA". Or with the new stories about JKF..."I wonder if molesting an 18 year old subordinate is in her DNA".

mccullough said...

What panels did she host? Give me a break. At least W quit drinking. What has Chelsea ever done?

Anonymous said...

"Last week, the formerly camera-shy first daughter hosted several panels at the Clinton Global Initiative."

interesting when you compare to W's daughter who seems to be a very popular morning show contributer.

They had to since John Jr whacked himself along with his wife and his wife's sister.

Think about John Jr's wifes family: losing 2 daughters at once.

I'm old enough to remember when the Kennedy's killed their women 1 at a time........

Now what? Does she step up to sexual harrassment like her dear old dad?

Why Dem family dynasties? Because when everyone is equal, some are much more equal. Egalitarian is for the masses. The leaders lead and the rest are expected to follow. We have seen the same sort of legacies and dynasties in the USSR, PRC, NORK, Venezuala, etc. part of the lie behind socialism.

I think in this country, things have gotten progressively worse, with the need for lots of money and thus donor access. Amazing number of politician kids get into the family business. Maybe one of the more egregious was the 2000 Presidential election, where the 3rd generation politician beat the 2nd generation one. And if that isn't bad enough, a 4th generation Bush is entering politics - but at least he has a couple things over Chelsea, e.g. good looks, Mexican Mother, law degree, etc.

She's the token at the office, and likely too good to get the coffee and donuts.
