"We are nuns. We rely on God and the angels to protect us."

"At the end, [the mob] paraded us like prisoners of war and hurled abuse at us as they led us from one alley to another without telling us where they were taking us."

Infantile entreaties for divine intercession by the religiously devout almost always fall on deaf ears.
History is full of incidents of Muslims, Vikings, other barbarians heading into the town to the church where the milksop turn-the-other cheek variety of Christians had gathered and killing them all.
Even if they were praying up a storm to Jesus and the sweet angels.

Ghost Dancer Indians had the same problem storming Gatlin guns.

And Iranian children given an Ayatollah's blessing and prayers to chant as they walked into minefields they thought Allah would show them the safe path through...all tended to blow up.

Lest one despair of humanity in general:

A Muslim woman who once taught at the school spotted Manal and the two other nuns as they walked past her home, attracting a crowd of curious onlookers.

"I remembered her, her name is Saadiyah. She offered to take us in and said she can protect us since her son-in-law was a policeman. We accepted her offer...

From here.

You ought to file this under Muslim outreach.

Meanwhile, the million Muslim march slated for 9/11 is still a go.

1) Non-violent nuns rounded up by muslims
2) Indian warriors putting faith in some supernatural being while attacking well armed opposition
3) Iranian muslim children pressed into cannon fodder service by their fellow muslim countrymen.

One of these things is not like the other 2.

Neo-pagans typically mix up different religions. They severely devalue all belief systems except their own so don't bother to differentiate between them.

The Bible was founded by followers of Jesus who died on the cross. Jesus told them to take up their crosses and follow him. Those nuns who you are mocking undoubtedly knew they might be martyred, but they put their lives in God's hands. If they die, the will still be under God's love and protection. For a neo-pagan this faith in a good undoubtedly sounds "infantile." Of course, as a big adult, what would you die for?

Submission to Allah's prophet Mohammed as has been chanted from every Mosque tower 8 times a day for 1500 years turns a mind into a malicious hater of the despised Dhimmies. Why not kill them...after all they asked for it by refusing to bow their faces down to a black rock in Mecca.

Our President feels the same way.

I could see Christipher Hitchens referring to that quote.

"...eternal living is a sense of place, of environment, where God is. In that place, one has no legitimate grounds for worry. Jesus is famous for saying just that. You can abandon yourself to God, who is present. "Let go and let God" is an old and wise saying -- unfortunately more widely said than practiced. Daniel's three friends, facing death in a "fiery furnace," were commanded to bow to the image set up by King Nebuchadnezzar. Their response to the king was that they did not even need to think about it (Dan. 3:16-18). Their God would or would not deliver them, but in either case all was well. They would not bow."

That was my understanding of their faith. They do not believe that God will directly intervene on their behalf, but that they will be judged fairly at the appointed time following the end of their mortal existence. Their faith is based on trust.

They also acknowledge that there is an order underlying our universe, which may exhibit favor (i.e. "luck") with the appropriate arrangement of causal effects (e.g. actions). This seems to be correlated with the statement: God helps those who help themselves. Presumably, this is a justification for individual freewill, which is capable of causal, albeit limited, influence of its environment. The boundaries, of course, are dictated by the moral law of God and his order (i.e. natural), and is a matter of voluntary and compulsory compliance, respectively.

Is this story supposed to reflect on the Assange/Grunwald story? If you start drone-killing secret document leakers then you're on the road to POW-marching nuns. Authority can't stand a truth that it hasn't approved.

Considering what happened to the nuns and other milksop Christians that counted on Jesus and the blessed angels to protect the turn-the-other cheekers from the savages - from the Levant through N Africa, Anatolia though the Balkans and Armenia?

All were very bad chess players.

They all died or were enslaved or turned into proper whores to breed more Muslims.

Tne Muslim world was built on the gravestones of Christians that prayed and kissed the sinners feet in humility vs. fight.

Actually, the Christians fought back. Neo-pagans demonize the Christians for their attempts at self defense ie the Crusades. To neo-pagans Christians are both milksop individuals and ruthless aggressors depending on what suites them at the time.

At the same time, neo-pagans like you have repeatedly demonstrated a deep seated love for Islam. While they repeatedly demonize Christians, they invite Muslims into the formerly Christian countries and support them as they colonize new territory. The neo-pagans like to mock Christians who are willing to die for their faith, but the neo-pagans have nothing worth dying for.

Isn't that what Jesus told them?

Cedarford, um, you know that according to the story (unless I missed something), the nuns were neither dead, nor enslaved, nor incubators.

Yoo-Hoo, Cedarford,

Who was it who turned the Muslims back at Tours? At Vienna? At Lepanto? The Reconquista of Moorish Spain? Who took back Jerusalem & held it for 200 years? I mean, shit, even the Byzantines held out for 800 years against the Muslims.

And those colonial powers -- Britain, France, Portugal, Italy that carved up the Ottoman Empire piece by piece, what were they?

I believe the word is Christian.

Your diatribe against "unarmed" nuns and their fables would be amusing were it not so historically uninformed. Historically speaking at least, I know you're smarter than that.

Cedarford - You'd think with all those milksop christians, the muslims would have won by now. Strange how it hasn't turned out that way.

I have an explanation for it. Do you?

No Gatling guns at Wounded Knee, just troopers with single-shot Springfields against Indians with winchesters, and the Sioux were spoiling for a fight.

They believed the Indian Messiah would destroy the white man.

That's why I advocate selective nuking and if that doesn't work, indiscriminate nuking.

Much more to come, probably.
The MB insists on reinstatement of Morsi and the military can't let that happen, it would be the end of the Egyptian generals. So the more the MB is put down the more the MB will oppress the copts. It is sharia law, you see.

No doubt this savagery was preceded by a "polite" offer to accept (i.e., submit to) Islam. Is it Al Qaeda's fault that they refused?

====================
Why, yes I do. A more pragmatic sort of Christian arose that determined the milksop path the 1st Christians took against the Islamic Horde (and later milksops like the nuns now emulate) was utter folly.

Instead of sitting on their asses or existing on their knees praying to Jesus and angels to intercede and show the Muslims the right path , the pragmatic Christians worked their tails off building a physical deterrent to jihadists. And what praying they did was praying their ships, swords, and arrows and the fighters that wielded them - were superior to the Muslim forces.

Jason said...

I'm sort of thinking these two nuns didn't really have the option of taking the muzzies on with swords, much less praying that they were stronger than the muzzie Damascus steel.

Maybe C-fudd should be recalibrating his criticism.

But, no. That's something a decent man would do.

These 'milksops' are preaching the Gospel in a sea of enemies. They have more guts than the infantile Cedarford, criticizing them from the safety of his sofa, can even comprehend.

Egypt is on the cusp right now, fundamental islam vs.some form of civil life. Incipient civil war. Chaos. A weak, pus-filled United States talking like a fourth grader explaining to the teacher why he didn't do his homework. The region is going up in flames; only the mob or the army speak anymore, but Franciscans are still doing their work. Productively.

How can an American "adult' mock their efforts? Their courage is borne of faith rather than rational self-interest, and their mission is of a genuine, non-malignant altruism. Their History is readable, verifiable; not comic book based (c4, i'm pointing at you). That a smallish event like this, occurring for a minute on the opposite side of the planet, is even discussed by us implies some importance.

Morsi was(is) developing a rapport with China. The Army, however is all pallsy-walsy with Russia. We're so happy about obama's excellent vacation. As usual, the people who produce anything in this world are overlooked, until they're dead.
